If you want more distance, get some that can use the various repeaters around. They can extend the distance a fair way - we used to get from Dandy area to Melton on a good day (roughly 50-60kms).

I've been looking at some Icom units, but they are fairly expensive... About the size of my current Nokia, so nice & easy to carry. They can also work at full power (5W) so a good 25km can be reached without a repeater.

About $360-$400 last time I looked.

yeah... those GME ones can use repeaters. The Uniden UH052XR is a good one too. RRP $419.00

As per the GME site

Duplex

Provides greatly increased range by allowing access to any of the hundreds of UHF CB repeaters installed around the country

Yeah, I'm gonna bag you in a minute, with lots of plastic and tape.

:D

I didn't bag anything.

I was just saying, that as far as UHF radios go, theres no point in spending heaps if you're only using it for cruising.

GiJOr33 there aren't many active repeaters around Melbourne.

There is one in Berwick (channel 3), and one located somewhere around the city (channel 2) but due to the decline in the use of UHF radios, and the increasing cost of running a repeater, the repeaters have just gradually shut down and haven't re-opened.

(This includes channel 5 emergency which is no longer available)

Don't buy a radio just because it's advertising duplex as a feature, most of the cheaper (under $100) ones have duplex function as well.:D

if someone can get them trade then thats great as the bst discount i can do is $120 as i get them through my work (trade discount) but would need to purschase 10 or more

and yes you can get the incar base units which are a lot more in price

check out the web site

any more queries email me

but acssplit is getting them.... So where do ya work Andrew

are you talking to me? cos my name is Andrew as well... and if you are talking to me... how do you know my name?!

I run my own business.... so just apply to the dealers when i need to.

GiJOr33 & acsplit are both named Andrew

ash3 and R31 Nismoid are both named Ash

Maybe we should just call everyone by forum names to avoid confusion.

redline i have used both and use them both frequently so pm me and i will tell you the advantages pros cons etc

i have to go to the movies now so i will reply later

but for the extra $25 gme is well worth it and i don't use the 38 ctcs encoding feature either

that would make the Uniden one the pick of the bunch with 2w of power... extra distance rather than private encoding

what if there are lots of people and you want your own channel? cos a cruise will mean plenty of people with cb's and if you want a channel with you closer mates, you can enable the ctcss and have one.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
