hi guys

Ive been a avid reader for ages and your forums have helped me countless times

but like so many who have that problem when the add a little more boost and it all goes wrong....i am the same

story goes

got my grandma sky

did a intercooler(blitz)

and full exhaust with big dump pipe(blitz)

can couldnt handle more that half throttle or blah blah blah, no power, cough and sputter like i see post and post again

epoxied up coils like ive read and put gap from 1mm to .8 and now .66 but my car still has the problem most times

after being frustarated i did the worst thing i could imagine (to a old school hot rodder) and advance the timing( i thought more cylinder preasure would need less timing) but im worried the spark is blowing out too

and presto the car ran ****smooth ****

my car boosts 9.6 or so and i cannot get it any lower since the exhaust and intake

but im worried it says about 30 degrees advanced at idle(850 revs)

I dont hear ping but with the turbo its hard because of the loudness of the turbo(std turbo) and road factors

are the posts about in-accurate timing correct eg x2 reading?

and is going down to say .5 on plugs wize or will i lose power to much?

i never planned to go to wild with this car as i have a rally car and othe crazies(so no computer if i can help it)just exhaust, intercooler and 10 psi

so questions are .5 plug gap and 30 timing is right?(i know its ment to be 15)

any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

If you have to run a gap of .6/.5 you have ignition issues.

You shouldnt even need to go past 1mm on a 9psi boosted car IMO.

I'd be looking at coils and surrounding electrics

thanks for the fast reply mate

but only 60K when got it and series 2 but i do see sparks at nite with cover off,i epoxied them up best i could, elec taped up the rails that hold them and put in some small rubber hose between the coil pak and metal on side of coil pak holder.

Id like to get spitfires but could be a waste of money better spent in a computer.

can someone please send a picture of the crack they have found as i didnt see any but gave areas a cote of epoxy

regards brett

the money spent on coils wouldn't be wasted if you have to run such a small gap at low boost.

what heat range and type are the plugs? that may also be a factor in you plug gap.

and just because the speedo says it has 60k on it doesn't mean that it is true.

some iriduims i got from auto barn um bkr6eix

^one range cooler right?

and my car was very pristene all thru, drive train, interior and all like newish

some posts say 30 advance is really 15??? :) with cheap lights on the white wire but i have also ran a lead before i knew about the wire

my exhaust and itercooler aint small so maybe is real cold and high preasure affecting a weak spark then?

it got 180rear wheels KW at 9.6 psi tho:)

bcpr6es is the copper code. but the heat range you got is right.

thankyou both il try some coppers at .6??

the funny thing is if i go crazy with timing advance it all goes hard enuf to drag xr6 turbos and xr8s with no burble

but my light say 30 adv and god knows how much at 7000 but doesnt sound like its pinging its smooth and quiet(but loud lol)

i have a prc rally car that runs 12 to 1 on 105 octane so i do know a bit about pre ignition.

maybe my timing reading is wrong?maybe its ring slapping lol? and i cant hear it but the only answer i have got is to wind up the advance :) ekk!

coppers at .8 seem more real but  i dont know anymore lol

your cas could be on the way out.

how could i test that?can i just study the timing with a light as rev it for erratic behaviour?

are u saying the reading could be wrong?or the base timing move?or dont advance properly?

does everyone else stay to less advance for more power?like old school(advance is just for cruise and pickup)flexability*

thankyou both il try some coppers at .6??

Nah, try them at .8 only and go back to base timing.

If no joy, then something else isnt right.

You have done a "backyard" fix on the coils, and it is only meant to be a short term style fix generally.

Also the CAS, ignitor etc etc. Anything related to spark/ignition
