Sorry about first post stuffed up!.........First time user be gentle....I have a exhaust give to me when i purchased my stagea its a Tanabe Hyper Medalion. Was wondering if any of you out there have used

and any comments!..... And yes i did a search but i got no hits Thanks Shane

I recently just fitted a HKS HI POWER to my Stag and i reakon its a bloody good exhaust, the sound is fantastic no drone from inside the car at all, it is rather quiet when you are cruising around and on idle but when you give it a bit damn it sounds good.

Cheers Simon

oh my go bro easy as

i run the blitz Nur exsahust

sounds sweet as nice and quite enough to pass the db test.

to test yours put it on and get a db meter (J car supply a chepo that you can build yourself)

put the car on level ground on a flat area (not near a gutter) and hold the db meter 45deg to the exsaust 1 metre from the exsahust tip get some on to hold the car on 3000rpm under no load it shold read less than 89db (this is quite loud)

if it dosn't pass leave it who cares?

if you get pulled up and defected for it explaine your predicament to the local exsahust shop and they will be able to make a silencer for you to get the defect cleared and then you take it back out after it's cleared then keep the silencer for next time you get pulled up

What was the total cost?

I have this exhaust. It is nice and quiet if that is what you like. I have fitted the dump/front pipe as well and there is a noticeable power gain to be had. i suspect a noisier exhaust may make more power. YOu should have no problem passing db tests and it is not so obvious that cops pull you over anyway. I dont know too much about other exhausts but i like this one.

why not just install the tanabe... if its for the stagea it should just bolt on.. its gonna be a lot cheaper than buying a new exhaust...

if you dont like it.. then look at buying something else....

I concur. If you've got the exhaust sitting there.....

A few questions about your exhaust FLYSLY:

1) Is it defiantely the HI POWER and not the HI POWER SILENT? does it have a proper middle muffler or just the hotdog/resonator thing? I was always afraid that the drone would be unbearable with the HI POWER.

2) How is the ground clearance? i have the whiteline/bilstein suspension kit (like many here) and with 335mm centre of wheel to guard (the top circlip) im having some exhaust clearance issues... and thats with the stock exhaust.

These are the things that have been holding me back from getting the HI POWER. If you could ease my mind I would be very appreciative.

I think that you have to try it to know..... if you don't you'll always be wondering.

Mine came with Fujisubo, I love the way it sounds, not too loud, (cept when it backfires at gear changes, then it sounds reeellly cool. :P

It is definately the HI Power, yes it does have a proper middle muffler, which i thought was quite strange because according to the picture it is supposed to just have a hotdog resonator type thing.

Umm the clearance is pretty good, my car is also lowered it does sit a bit lower than i would have liked at the rear muffler but i plan on taking it down to the exhaust shop to have it lifted a bit not becuase it hits anything when i driving or going over speed bumps or anything but just cause it looks a bit silly cause its not snug under the rear bar.

What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
