Hey

I've been searching for a while now and keep coming up with the same old descriptions and specifications

I just want to know what the main differences are between SAFC1 and SAFC2.

I presume the SAFC2 has more load points and obviously looks different so the SAFC1.

Can someone post up some specifications..

Would you say the SAFC1 is now outdated and best to go SAFC2? I am having trouble finding one at a reasonable price and have bought an SAFC1 now.. but not sure if i should use it or what.

I mean, if there is a major different between V1 and V2, then yeah, but if its the same shit then I will just use SAFC1.

I am also referring to the blue screen SAFC, not the ancient dial version :pirate:

Don't know how much of that makes sense, I'm pretty tired, hungry and out of it, lonnnng day today..

Thanks in advance,

Abu

Basically the SAFCII has a knock sensor and the extra load points and a scroll wheel instead of 4 buttons. In the end they will get the same result - dunno how much the few extra correction points make to real world performance as the safc creates a smooth curve between points. The monitor mode may be different as well but essentially the same. I just bought the number II cos i wanted one brand new with manual etc - and for the knock but i dunno how accurate the knock readings are anyways.

safc1 has 8 correction points that can be adjusted in 500rpm increments. thats about all it does.

safc2 has 12 correction points that can be adjusted in 200 rpm increments and has the ability to run 2 maps (usually 1 tuned, and the other standard) and it has the ability to minitor knock.

safc NEO has 16 correction points, VTEC controller built in (i.e. VAFC built in) as well as all the features the safc2 has but has a colour display that kind've turns me on.

That is the answer I was looking for.

So 2 maps, 1 standard. So pretty much you can switch the SAFC2 off and you will be running off standard ECU.

SAFC NEO with the 16 points is another advantage, as well as the SAFC2 features..

Although I am just looking for something basic to do the job, so SAFC2 would be good, because I would like to have 2 maps, standard boost and high boost would work?

Time to weigh up prices and see whats available!

Thanks for your help man, much appreciated.

Neo also has no knock sensor.

the knock sensor on my safc2 was a life saver. i turned timing over a bit too much, i saw it hit 99 then started to hear a little pinging AFTER.

i set it to flash if it went over 40 knock, otherwise i would've have known and blown my motor to bits..... again.

Hahaha lucky hey.

Hard to find a SAFC II for sale, been looking pretty hard..

What mods you got and how much power you making with the SAFC II?

Thanks,

Abu

OK so I got me an SAFCII but the whole thing is in Japanese, as it would be lol

Anyone have a English manual for one of these by any chance?

Thats the DIY I found on doing the installation so I will be following that.

Also just want to know how to set it up to run stock fuel map until I up the boost and can take it to a dyno to get it tuned?

Thanks,

Abu

in one of the menus there will be an option to "initialise". that will delete all data that has been input into the unit.

i recommend doing that and starting from scratch.

OR you can scroll through and find "file select" or something like that. this will allow you to choose between the 2 data files by going to the column which says "ON OFF" and pushing the joystick up or down to select.

this is all off the top of my head so follow it only as a general guide.

You can have it all prepared/installed as in have it clipped, femal/male plugs attatched and then plugged back into the original position. All powered up and running too.

Then when ready to tune, just unplug that 1 wire and re-route the signal to go thru the SAFC unit.

If you use the plugs supplied, no further soldering will be required to make the signal go thru the unit or back to the original position.

It'll make sense when you are doing it, I'm crap at decribing it at 5am.

Thanks for that man. Will have a better look now that I am half awake and sort of know whats going on.

Are you saying plug the male and female plugs that go into the AFM into them selves?

Thanks,

Once you install the safc it will just run the stock fuel map because no correction has been applied to the load points. You can have it fully installed and driving around and all it will do is display values such as throttle, air flow, knock etc. If you install a brand new safc it is fine to drive around with it untill it gets tuned because it hasn't changed anything. Otherwise if it is used just check that in the 'settings' onder 'high throttle' and 'low throttle' everything is on zero correction and you will be sweet to drive. Don't have to worry about disconnecting it etc. :)

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
