Hi everyone, My name is Brittany, aka, Brittz, I used to be apart on nissan silvia when i had a silvia but im currently hunting for a 33. Im having trouble finding a nice clean one, I looked at one tonight which i spotted on car sales, but im going to get it RAA checked, Anyone got advice on stolen, damaged rebirthed cars or any dodgey people selling a car? I have already read the section with information about "buying a skyline" and im slowly learning about it, but im really paranoid after hearing heaps of storys of friends of friends whoms cars got confiskated because their cars were not legit. I have wanted a 33 for a long time... Just wondering are those RAA inspection dudes able to find a legit or stolen car? Like do they ground dig on them? Or is it really going to lenghts to find out yourself? Also, I have a friend (girl) who just brought a gtr and only after 4 weeks of having it its been broken into 3 times, tyers slashed, and badge ripped off, this all happening at the shopping center we both work at, which if i do get a 33 i will be parked. Why are skylines targeted to theft? Thanks, Brittz

Welcome! Hope you enjoy owning a skyline.

To check to see if it's stolen, get the VIN number, Engine number & Registration. Then go to www.ezyreg.sa.gov.au and do a vehicle securities check. This will tell you if the body or engine are listed as stolen.

As for parking it at a shopping centre, like Dan said, a GOOD alarm is teh only way to go. Remember an alarm is only as good as its installed too, so a $200 alarm from Strathfield ISNT going to cut it.

Hope this all helps

thanks, I only have the vin number, and his plate number. is that enough? I guess i need all 3.. should i ask/sms him for the engine number? I rang some 131084 number and i had the vin and plate numbers ready and the lady just asked for the number plate and said yes its a r33 white skyline, hasnt been reported as stolen, written off, or defected... so it that the all clear.. seemed too easy, only had to give the number plate info.. not the vin

Hey, welcome to the forums. Alot of RAA mechanics dont really no a great deal about turbo performance vehicles "in my experiences anyway". Your best bet is to go to a performance workshop for a once over.

Ryan

I agree. And im pretty sure the price is similar anyway?

thanks for the welcoming and info, I think ill just stick with the RAA inspection.. hope all goes well and ill have a skyline by the end of the week. Ill come to what ever cruises you have.

Hi and welcome to SAU sa

Just remember, the other rules of thumb. If it dont feel right , dont, and you dont have to go and buy the first car you see.

Check the forum here and check the price and condition of these cars to give you an idea of what you may get for your hard earned dollars.

And yes , an alarm imobilizer is a definite first thing to install if the car hasn't got one.

O , and another thing, There are plenty of fella's or girls that will probably be more than willing to come and have a look at a car if you want some advice before you buy the car you may be interested in buying.

That right fellow SAUer's

And the best thing for work is a work car (cheap run around) Save the line for everything else (It's safe then, no vandalism)

GOOD LUCK

    • Just to be clear, there were no lights or codes when the hiccups were occurring. Also nothing noticeable in the cars' braking. It brakes fine and the dash is clear. I only made the connection when it did throw a code and suddenly, despite the lights, it felt great again.
    • Yeah they are sliders and this was in my head before I worked out it was the speed sensor.
    • Ok so we have a smoking gun.  A few weeks ago I had to replace a speed sensor that I'd fit incorrectly. I replaced the sensor and everything was fine with no lights or codes thrown any longer.  When I was doing some more bedding in yesterday I got ABS and traction control lights again and, considering when this happens those things are disabled, the pedal went back to normal with smooth braking and no hiccups.  The codes thrown are for the same speed sensor that I replaced. When I looked at the sensor I took out it looks like the tip of the sensor is damaged. So whatever happened to it, perhaps it has damaged the magnetic ring on the bearing (that I only replaced the other week). I'll get my boroscope in the hole where the sensor goes and see if there is any damage in there. Hopefully just the tip of the sensor is in there and the bearing is fine. 🤞🏻  It's worth noting also that the pedal hiccup happens more often and for longer periods now and totally goes away when the codes are thrown again which happens usually after 5 or so minutes of driving. Love all your help here as usual guys, thanks!
