Hi there,

I'm seriously considering importing a toyota aristo - just wondering if there are any owners here with some tips regarding buying, compliance, and things to look out for? These are going heaps cheaper than the chasers and with the twin turbo supra engine they must be awesome cruisers....

Thanks in advance!

Cheers

one of the things to check for is that they've had the factory recall done on them. they have a dodgy suspension arm which can cost $1000 or more to fix, which was addressed by a factory recall. They usually put markings in the engine bay if the recall has been carried out.

Thanks for the replies fellas - any hidden problems information will help. I just found out that it's pretty common for them to crack the top of the radiator then the head so something to look for.

Cheers

Yep, i did the radiator in mine at the start of the year. Apart from that it was a beautiful car to drive, i really took my time finding one and ended up with the cleanest example my compliancer and anyone in Adelaide had seen. Be carefull as there are alot of shitty examples and try to get one of the later models as they are getting a little long in the tooth anyway. I spent weeks scouring the auctions trying to find the right car and it payed off.

Most people seem to go for silver and it has now become the most common colour and that is exactly how it looks, common just like any other camry or commodore. I personally went with pearl two tone as it show the class/style that it was designed too and the tan interior looks better than the grey/blue once again common interior. Just my opinion though.

Hi there,

I'd love to see some pics! How does the 2jz drive as an auto? Yep colours - I'm thinking silver but not too keen on the tan interiors. Looks like they've got plently of legroom. The camry look is ok - definately sleeper to the un-suspecting!

There is also a black two tone witht the grey interior that looks pimp though again black on its own looks plain unless with a nice kit. Once lowered and the arches filled out they look far from a camry and show alot more class. Scroll down and click on thumbnails.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
