I received this in my email... can anyone help out?

Hi SDMA members,

We have a hillclimb on 30th September and we are short of officials.

We need a commentator to help Dave as well as the normal flaggies, chocker, grid marshall etc.

Please help out if you can because if we don’t get enough officials then the event won’t happen.

From memory you get lunch, drinks etc and usually pair up for the flag marshalls, so you have help and company and a great position for photos

The good news is I have two maybe's from here now... anyone else interested?

If you want to know all about Chocking... just talk to Sprinterboy, he's done it before. You get to see the burnouts there.

Do we have someone who is comfy on a microphone to help Dave (Timespan) in the box calling out the splits, times etc ?

I marshalled at Tex, and it was shite boring sooo :D

Would put my hand up for the MIC, but have touretts!!

This won't be as long between runs and you can see most of the track most of the time, how about chocker at the start line?

Or relief chocker so the chocker can have a break?

imagine putting chocker on your resume... LOL

I used to own cotton pickers and used to pick cotton, put cotton into module builders to make 40' modules of cotton. Awesome industry... but I often wondered about the contractor that used to run around behind our pickers... his job was to (machine) pull the bare cotton stalks out of the ground and pile them ready for burning... but he was offically known as a "Stalk Puller" :D I'm glad I never had to put that on my resume LOL

Thanks guys

Is anyone else interested?

Could those who have expressed an interest in volunteering please contact David Yates 0419 614 144 for details on where/who to meet up with on the day, let me know if you need a lift or anything.

If you come out to watch, don't forget to say HI to us.

I don't care who does the commentating so long as it isn't Mick :) I can't imagine what he would say about me while Ive got my helmet on and can't hear sh!t, nor would I want to risk it LOL

any other takers?

Still wanna chock for us GeeTR? Sprinterboy (Justin) can tell you all about it... you get real close to the burnouts then :(

basically its on the start line with a chock on a long handle to stop the cars from rolling back for their starts and I'm sure you know what flaggies are. Commentating is really helping Dave (Timespan timer) by calling out the split times and lap times etc.

President’s Report – Rob Wall

Sunday 30 September saw another good Hillclimb with 50 entrants. A point to note is that many regulars were missing so with their return we could be getting close to having full fields as the year progresses. The message here is to get your entries in early. Also, with the increased number of participants, we may consider changing the present arrangements so that entries may not be accepted on the day. This is yet to be considered.

We were lucky enough to have some additional assistance for Sunday’s meeting and my thanks goes to Skylines Australia members for the provision of officials. This is an area where the Club still needs to lift its game. The day hasn’t come yet when a meeting has not been held due to a lack of officials but, without more club members coming forward, it may not be far away.

In this regard, CAMS is arranging for several courses to be conducted in Canberra. These will be held over the weekend of 3 and 4 November. Courses of interest to our members would be:

Circuit Course on Saturday 3 Nov - This course is for those who want to progress from a General Official to a Bronze Circuit Official.

Introductory Course on Sunday 4 Nov – Designed to cover general aspects of motor racing officiating and leads from a Trainee license to a General Official.

Club Chief on Sunday 4 Nov – This is a new license category that has been introduced to assist clubs in the running of club and multi club events. Participants must have a General Officials license and want to to be capable of performing the role of Clerk of Course, Event Director or assume a team leader role (except Chief Scrutineer or Chief Steward) at club or multi club events. Two members are already signed up.

If you are interested in any of the above courses, please Email or call Rachelle at the NSW CAMS Office [email protected] or 02 9635 1366.

On general matters, there has been some discussion about the discrepancies between points allocated to those officiating at 2 lap events Vs those driving at 2 lap events. The Committee has agreed to restore parity and every driver that completed the three runs at the 2 lap event will be allocated 2 additional points toward the Championship.

There is a Working Bee scheduled for Saturday 20 October and I would like to see as many members there as possible. Further details will be provided at the General meeting to be held at the Southern Cross Club at 7.30pm on Tuesday 16 October.

Until next time ……

Stay Safe.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
