Hi,

Just brought a gtr shell on the weekend it has not been registered in aus before think it is a 89 model not sure getting that checked out.

What would need to be done to get it on the road i was goin to use it for track and dutton rallies etc where is has to have some form of road reg.

Would it be worth looking at club or rally reg?

Thanks

The ability to register this GTR will depend on how it was imported to Australia - with any luck the seller will provide you with the original import paperwork or at the very least the import approval from DOTARS, then we can advise on how to proceed with getting it registered if it's at all possible. Please feel free to message me with more details once you know and I will be happy to advise further.

Thank you very much for the info.

If he has no paper work is the anyway of finding out the history of it?

If the car has not been imported under the road registerable sections of the law, (ie 15 yea rule, Personal import etc) then it cannot be registered for road use. If it was and the owner simply does not have the paperwork for any reason, then DOTARS can provide a certified copy of the original import approval.

Thanks fellas.

I will do that.

The bloke i got it off got it off a workshop they took the engine out to put in another gtr or sumthing and he got it as a rolling shell now i got it off him.

What about rally rego what are the rules for that?

Just found out it was built 1/90 if that helps?

Thanks David

Just got onto DOTARS they said it could be registered and that it was imported in Dec 05.

Im asking for the paperwork now what else would need to be done to get it on the road?

Almost certainly imported as a 15year old car just before the rules changed. So depending on which state you are in you will have different minimum requirements.

I am in vic so it will be registered in vic THanks for the help

  • 1 month later...

i think rally rego would be ok, as its not on the road and neednt be, well safety etc for general road use, only rally satey ie. roll cages seat belt harrnesses and such as opposed to rda approved bonnets and ride heights or full interiors and such. road and track/rally rego's are different in a respect.

hope that helps, s.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
