hey guys,

i need a cat of some sort to suit my S2 R33 to fit my 3 inch cat back system im going to be putting on next week, because there was a rattling sound i would hear occasionally coming from the cat and/or slightly behind it and as i was told by the guy at Exhaust Technology that my cat is stuffed, so im looking for some sort of low cost replacement (hopefully something around 100 buck) for the time being - hopefully someone has something :), i was considering having no cat but im still unsure on this...

also on my car what is the exhaust diameter from the factory, and is this cat that i have pictured a factory cat?

hopefully you guys can help me out with some advice,

much appreciated,

p.a

I wouldn't risk running no cat, I think the fine is around $10,000. I'd love to just for the flames :)

I'm not sure of the stock exhaust diametre, sorry.

yeah youre right flames would be nice hehe, but yeah, not worth the risk ey.. i duno, just looking for a replacement cat then i guess...

what you got on youre car hillzy ?

Mine is sitting near my back door.......lol Whoops!!!

Have you heard of anyone getting a fine for this?? What about all those cars running straight pipes that get defected?? If a cop is gonna pull you over and defect you, they only say "too loud", among other things, then you go put your car back to stock(cat included) and off to regency!

I've never heard of anyone getting done for it.

Maybe it's just a scare tactic? $10k is enough to keep my cat on... for now anyway.

Did you know cats only have a limited life span, after 5-10years they're useless.

hey guys, thanks for the advice and thanks for the offer night crawler, but i already picked up a xforce cat off of Jack/BlueGTS last night..

also, just wondering, if i ask the exhaust shop doing my exhaust next week to make the cat back system but without a cat, would they do it ? or will they refuse

regards,

Does your rear bar get stained Ryan?

Yeh mine does too, But nothing a bit of polish wont fix!!

they should do it no matter what. their getting paid so there happy.

where u getting your exhaust done?

I think he said he's getting it done by Marky at ET(Top Choice) Just tell Mark you don't want it in there and bang he won't do it! You can pretty much drop your car off there and not say a word, and come out with a killa job!

hey guys, nah im getting it done at AAA Exhaust (down at richmond i think)

what are youre opnions on that shop, any good ?

also, you reckon they'll charge me extra for fitting another cat (that i will supply) at the same time as the cat back system ?

AAA are pretty good from what i've heard, I'm a loyal Marky fan, so AAA would be equal second best for me with D&T!

Not sure if they will charge you more, Maybe $20 for the extra little work, but in saying that they shouldn't! especially if they already quoted you on putting a cat in!

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
