personally i like the xforce system..i myself have a 2.25inch catback system....really responsive and deafening loud...

which to some is a bad thing..

my advice would be to not get very wide piping, i originally got a 2.5inch system installed, with a 4inch canon, and the car was losing performance due to lack of back pressure...

so i dropped down the piping size, put a silencer in the cannon....

problem solved....car has excellent response and a tough sound to it..not a sporty sound

definately not tinny at all..

but it all it does come down to personal preference...check out a few sound files of exhausts and videos on you tube to get the right idea....

but if ur limited by price, then go the xforce systems, fairly lightweight, legal and loud with silencer on, over 120db without....

mine was measured at 128db without, 96dbwith @ 4000rpm

Just gonna throw this out there - don't forget the double barrel exhaust!

I've got one on my and I love it, performs well, rumbles in the low revs, has a nice "ring" which sounds really well tuned in the high. Probably not what you're looking for as it's not crazy loud in the low revs (still loud though!), which I prefer to avoid unwanted attention, but put your foot down...

I'll post a video as soon as my mate remembers to bring his camera.

yeah kieran im looking to get a muffler that looks very similar to stock which is the double barrell type.

maybe its one way to get around insurance, but also to keep cops away.

im going mild steel everything except the muffler will be stainless.

i heard a stainless back end with the rest mild makes a sex'ish sound on the N/A's!?

i had a mild steel catback then changed to stainless and personally i think it sounds heaps better.

the steel droned so much yet the stainless has a more throaty sort or roar to it.

personal preference really but be warned the mild steel will rust and look like dogs balls as soon as it get a tiny bit of moisture on it. (this happened to mine)

ill go get a sound file of mine and post it up in about half an hour

post 300 :)

finally got my exhaust done on my excel

they are 4-1 extractors and you can hear they come onto song high in the rev range - around 3500 all the way to 6000 rpm redline

there is a slight flat spot right at the start of throttle press - think i need to clean the IAC valve and check TPS

meh, its not a skyline but whatever right :)

ps - car was at operating temps already - and if you look carefully you can see a bit of smoke outa the exhaust, she burns a little oil (what do you expect, its a hyundai with 160,000kays and been thrased for the last 35,000 kays of its life)

and now that i want to upload it to youtube, youtube tels me it wants to confirm my email address before i upload anything.

so it send me and email

FRUSTRATING! any ideas?

someone else want to upload the video onto youtube for me?

Okay, here's mine.

All the other videos I took, including the drive by and up close shot of the exhaust came out dodgy. I should've checked before I can back inside. I'll just record them again tomorrow when I have someone to hold the camera for me.

Bought LEDs off ebay for $20, my dash lights were f**ked so I thought why not.

I found out what the exhaust is, it's two 3" piping from the cat-back to two separate 2.5" mufflers. Stainless steel, no brand that I can see. Sounds really good except for the fact it's currently f**ked (it's spitting the guts out and way way too loud). Going to buy a Varex muffler within the next two weeks, unless someone can give me a really good reason not to.

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
