I was looking over my battery the other day it has an earth kit but there isnt a -ve cable connected to the battery is this bad even though i have a n earth pack.

Also the car has had a miss for the last couple of weeks but on friday the car keeps surging while driving and just dies at the lights when i pull up. Also has little mental fits and wont go over 2500rpm.

Ive changed the following.

Fuel filter

spark plugs

cleaned the afm

and the idle solenoid thingy

had a look at coils took one off at a time and noticed 5 wasnt firing so I bought a coil from nispro still running shit.

reset the ecu

OK no the earth pack is sweet But heres a real problem today i thought i would try and solve my miss fire problem. I pulled everything off got all the coils out had a good inspection at all of them. Noticed also there was an oily no.6 spark plug ,I was reading some of the syptoms and it said ,bad internals or wrong fuel/oil ratios can anyone help me with this new ongoing problems im having with my car.I did just recently change the oil . I'll try another oil change 2mrw and buy a new spark plug.

Ok will do that first thing monday .

Today i was going to check the ecu codes! Apart from the coil problem im having .The car in the past 2 days has been dying completly when im just about to stop at the lights or when im just cruising it will just start to surge on and off throwing me head around like a rag doll. Then it will either come good or just die .All the dash lights come up so i dont think its the battery ,changed the fuel filter spark plugs about 1 mnth ago(hoping to solve the problem no luck) .Yesterday checked all the coils took out all the spark plugs No.6spark plug was black and smelt like fuel/oil.Cleaned AFM it was covered in heaps of black shit. cleaned pretty much all of it off.Cleaned the idle solenoid thingy(picture)Put it all back together started her up pulled the plugs one at a time and coil 5 wasnt firing wich means its definately a coil if 6 had the black spark plug. Ive been reading a fair few posts and I think my problem with the car cutting out is a different problem. Because ive had the shit coil for about 2mnths now this has just popped up.

Either:

1. Fuel pump

2.crank sensor shat itself

3. Please add

will add a new pic in 20mins charging camera

Compression test on monday

yeah the engine dying problem just came out of the blue but the missing problem was like 2mnths ago.

I did put it in at the mechanics about 1mnth ago to try and fix it ,They changed and checked spark plugs cleaned the afm changed the fuel filter and checked the ecu for anything and still nothing.but that was when the engine missing problem wasnt as bad and not a constant miss!!!!!!??!!

COuld the missfiring have gotton worse and maybe its forcing the cars ecu into limp mode?

Im taking it to another mechanic 2mrw for a diagnostic check to these guys just of christine ave (gold coast) i think they're called STOICHE correct me if im wrong ,but they have some bullshit performance cars there and can hopefully shed some light on my so shitty day.

I also bought a coil and tryed no change but i havent changed that oily black spark plug yet either ,all the other plugs were pretty white should i just throw them all and start over???

(car runs realy good after i reset the ecu still misses but it doesnt just die , until i turn it off.

Cars mods: 1 drift airfilter

Exaust only from the cat back 3'', and a earth kit if you can call that a mod but thats about it.

What should the standard oil pressure read when cruising at 60 (mine is just below 4)???????

Anyway fingers crossed for 2mrw!!!!!!!

Ok just walked back from mechanics after work not my favourite thing to do(walk) .

They havent fully sussed out the problem yet but they are pretty sure its a sensor.

I dont know what the f**k to do with getting realy frustrated with it?

Just wondering if anyone knows good mechanics on the gold coast with payment plans if any?????????????????????????????????????????????????

Because this is sounding expensive and it has been a real hard year on the wallet.

ok so i had to take the car back from stoiche performance but i will take it back to them 2mrw for round 2.

But for now can anyone explain what these bits and peices a i have pictured please?

this was a connection beside the afm dont know what it is. hers a better pic of it location

first picture is an electrical boost gauge unit.

i assume the plugs in the 2nd/3nd picture were together? cause they should be.

yeah what are they they're bloody filthy with gunky yellow shit all thru it or should it be like that???

Im thinking it could be your CAS. If it is a sensor you'll save yourself a crapload of money doing the ECU diagnostic which will tell you which one broken. Sensors are usually pretty cheap and easy to replace. O2 Sensors seem to be going left right and centre at the moment.

$300 for new Z32 afm

under $100 for 2nd hand stockie

either clean that spark plug in some petrol, or carefully with a wire brush etc or pay $4 for a new one. if it gets fouled again, there may b esomething wrong with that cylinder.

if there was oil gettting into the intake, it would be on all the plugs. either it is, and the other cylinders are happily burning it away, but no.6 is a weak spark etc. or the cylinder with the bad plug has bad rings or another problem. If your mechanic wants to rebuild it it may be cheaper to just buy a second hand engine rb20s are cheap as chips.

as a quick check, swap the coil and plug to other cylinders and see if the problem moves too. how does it run, obviously stalling but does it rev smoothly or sound like a tractor

Thanks for your feed back guys, as for the spark plug it only had oil on one, which i did attempt to clean.replacing today. Finally got the day off ill have a fiddle with it.

Was just wondering what CAS is????

But I really need to sort this car dieing on me all the time ,like the car has been missing for a mnth or so but this complete shut down shit just sucks?

Its like the car gets thrown into limp mode and wont push over 2500rpm.

    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
