well the story is this! on sunday around 6pm i was on regency rd heading home and i was at a red light. i stopped for the red light and a few seconds later i felt a bang. looked in the mirror and saw a rusted old gold magna that went up my ass! i then pulled over and he did to. we talked about the damage and even though it wasn't major it would still cost a few dollars to repair. i then started to ask for his details and he kept on changing the subject, and then he started to get a little heated and so did i! but the thing was i wanted to get my car fixed so i didn't do anything but tried to get his details. his friend then saw things were getting a little heated so he jumped in and started talking to me! he said he knows someone who works in a body workshop and blah blah blah so i gave him my number and they got back in their car. i didn't pursue it any further because i felt there was something fishy going on and i wouldn't be able to get any information from them without sorting to violence!so i just wrote down his number plate and went to the police! i filed a statement and report and they told me i should get a call tomorrow! well today the call never came so i went out there asking for a contact number or something from the police station but they can't hand out other peoples details!

so right now i don't know what to do! i doubt the cops are going to be doing anything and i should've decked those guys!

i don't know if i should just cop it and pay for the repairs myself!

any suggestions?

Are you insured? If so just give the insurance company the number plate details and they will do the rest and get on with your claim. They are pros at screwing people for money >_< Also get a copy of your report to the police as it will be required by the insurance company.

Contact your insurance company, give them the police report number and they will then handle it from there; you'll get your car fixed.

If you have no insurance you can file a small claims and use the police report number to take them to court.

You still won't find out where they live etc but they will receive a court summons. And 'eventually' most likely in $5 instalments if they are some dero/bum living out north or south you will get your $$ back. >_<

I've never had to do it but that's how I have been told it works.

Depending on the cost of repairs sometimes your better off having the insurance company fix it.

I'm unsure if you will loose a rating if your not at fault if the car turns out to be not registered i.e some one buys a car and doesn't transfer the rego.

Fingers crossed all you have to pay is the excess. Thats if your not with Justcars as justcars excess is sky high. :S

the cops will get around to it. if the car was stolen their your probably pretty much forked. just sweat it out, wait a few days then go back to the police with your copy of the report to prove you already have made one.

well unfortunetly i don't have insurance! i have a pretty bad rating because i thought i was hero in my first car and drove it off the cliff at mt lofty! and plus with insurance the excess would be far greater than the cost of repairs! since i'm under 25 and all

but i was thinking about taking them to court like what cubes is saying! but i just need to find out what the proccess i'll have to go through to get a court summons!

you shouldnt pay any excess or lose any rating if its not your fault! the only reason you pay excess is if the insurance co cant reclaim its costs, ie: you are at fault, or the at fault cant be found. seeing as you got the rego, your insurance co should pay out the claim, and then chase it up later. its not your fault the other guys are wanks.

im with just car, and ive read the policy in depth. as with most insurance companies im sure they will be eager to reclaim their money, so unleash them!

Well if you can't afford the insurance yet still drive a nice car, you probably are too dumb to drive a car in the first place.

Seriously cars are a depreciating assest yet people have fancy skylines which are going down in value everyday yet don't insure them

if you cant afford the insurence you cant afford the car, sadley insurence prices for imports are very high, even an auto ca18de silvia can reach into the thousands :P

if the cops dont do anything about it take it to small claims court with the plates and let the court deal with it if the damage its bad

cheers mate!

but to the thing about insurance! aaaahhhhhhhhhh never said i couldn't afford it but it was just mainly i couldn't get it! just a fraction of the every weeks pay wouldn't have hurt! since i was the only owner of the car and i haven't had it for long! i was planning on making my old man a joint owner so he could apply for the insurance and i would just be the other driver! the only thing that has been delaying me to do it is because he is really busy right now with his court cases with his employer!

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
