Hey guys,

I'm having a bit of issues with mine. I just had the software installed by Andy a couple of weeks ago. Starting yesterday everything started playing up. When I start the car, everything works fine, then about 5 minutes later a message comes on going "Caution do not turn ignition off, do not take disc out" and then another screen 30 seconds later "Insert Program Disc" then like 5 minutes the screen resets itself and starts working again and then another 5 minutes later I get the messages again! Any advice or has anyone else experience this?

Regards,

Hi Gyian

Sorry for this problem. I am just checking with the developer what he wants me to do but we will sort out the problem and most likely reinstall the conversion.

I will get back to you later today when I hear back from him.

Cheers

Andy

Our language conversion only covers cars to early 2004 at the moment. We are working on later model V35's but it would be mid this year before it will be ready.

Not sure about the rest.

I found TV was a bit of a waste. if I had to go back all over again, I would probably just fit FM band expander on radio and wire the Garmin on the Japanese TV's Aux input. That is probably the only 2 things that I would use pretty much on almost daily basis. Saved me a few hundreds, but since I got it now, I will keep it.

There is a DIY thread on M35 Stagea section showing how to wire Aus TV tuner e.g. Asuka or HiTV unit into the japanese TV tuner's Aux in.

Do a search there. I don't have a direct link, sorry. The basic wiring principle would be similar to V35.

FM band expander any car audio shop can do if you don't want DIY. Otherwise there's lots of ppl who has done it themselves, ask around this forum.

I was told it was just inline connection in the aerial plus finding a +12V and ground. Doesn't need rocket science for that.

I disagree Rianto, the TV tuner is one of the best mods I did. I always listen to the news on the way home and other programs. And the kids love it in the back seats also.

Thanks for the reply, if you end up working out the 2005 models do you install them? Secondly, how can you have both the tv and nav if theres only 1 input for aux on the system?

once again thanks

when the 2005 model version available I will be doing that as well for Melbourne.

I'm sure it'll all be announced here by Andy when it becomes available.

TV & Nav - thank's to Chris Rogers' "creativity"

On my car it's even complicated because I also have aftermarket reverse camera that overtakes everything on screen as soon as I put it into reverse.

I think I better stop there before my car becomes a rolling Star Trek's USS Enterprise E.

Tempted to wire in a phaser torpedo behind the grill...

Would you do this for me ? For a price of course , I am able to source the Garmin Units through my work.

all the wiring in my car wasn't done by myself - I know the concept although I never tried to find a +12ve wire before - u should not trust me with wiring in your car.

best if u take it to an audio shop.

i'm sure chris rogers said already garmin is not diy. u could end up in tears if u get it wrong.

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
