Hi All,

Have a series 1 r33 GTST, recently had a second hand engine fitted all running well. Problem i have is witht the previous engine i started to experience an intermittent problem i.e on occasions when you started the car it ran like it wasnt firing on a cylinder, sometimes a simple restart would rectify and all would run smooth sometimes it just wouldnt run smooth for the whole day. Anyway that engine is gone and had new engine in for almost 8 months now never had a problem, in the last week or so it appears to be doing the same thing again start up she sounds like it has dropped a cylinder but this time i just restart and problem goes away, am worried problem will get progressively worse till its same as before.

Anyone have an idea as to what is causing this

did your mechanics tell you why you needed to replace the engine....and did they tell you what the problem was...if they did then obiviously its not the motor but could be the ecu, afm, sensors a lot of things timming for example....so just take it to an import specialist and they should be able to tell you whats going on

So many things could be causing it...main culprits are usually the coilpacks...ignitor...coilpack loom...then there are other possible causes like the CAS and so on...when the other engine went in...d you re-use any bits off the old engine?

other engine was replaced due to a so called "TUNING SHOP" in brisbane blowing my turbo and destroying number 2 cylinder after 16 runs on a dyno.

parts used from old engine were all harnesses and coil packs

you can get them from Nissan or opt for a second hand part but it could also be shagged. if u know anyone with the same model car try swaping the ignitor then the coils and see if the problem is still there (then again u said this doesnt always happen)

best of luck mate,

Have swapped around coil packs while it had old engine in always remained missing on number 4 cylinder tried another ignitor same probs sounding like it is most likely the harness.

Anyone know where you can get a new harness or is it possible to repair the old one?

Well...it might not be the case for you but it certainly was for me...after spending money on new coilpacks and a used ignitor i would still have that problem...then one day while it was happening i decided to unplug each coil one by one and found the dodgy connector on my loom...

    • I thought Australia got rid of the "drag dodgy fuel up to 91 RON with ethanol", which is why all E10 advertise as "up to 94 RON" ? Anyway I put E10/91 in the missus' Mazda because she empties the tank weekly, when all my cars get 98RON. tl;dr - turbo - 98 RON, if you can't afford that, sell it and get a commuter car (or tune your car for 91, which no one does).
    • Yeah i found that alot of parts can be wrong or "very" hard to get the real right one. I already bought some brakes years ago on me "old" GT calipers and they were wrong too 😄  I told them too. Even send them pictures...but they said "EBC catalogue has them on my car... So i dont know what their answer will be. I call monday them and let them know that they are really not on my car. If they were they would be already on a car...
    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
