How To Get Rid Of Scratches?

I've searched the forums but couldn't find anything regarding this topic.

What is the best way to get rid of scratches on the paint and paint which has been chipped away due to small rocks etc?

Paint that has been chipped away by small rocks? Er... touch up paint. Or respray.

Depends on the severity of the scratches mate...

Without seeing your car; if they're only minor scratches - try "ScratchX" - you can get these tubes from Autobarn or Repco - retail at around $20 I think - spend time rubbing away and then shimmy clean then you will see a good difference.

If slight more serious - try a full cut and polish - will cost you around $170 for a good job - basically will cut away the primary layer of paint and will polish it up so with some luck and hard work, a good job will remove the scratches.

If the scratches are paint-deep - no choice, repray... I would not recommend a spray-can job on a Skyline... let me know how you go, I can hook you up with a very good panel shop that is very competitively priced.

for small hairline scratches I use some alco wipes my mum gets from the hospital she works at, works like a dream! I just rub until the scratch disappears then wipe the whole area clean with a chamois.

It hasn't affected my paint job yet and I'll continue to use them until I see any blemishes from using them

probably won't work on larger scratches though

You need to define how deep the scratches are...if your rides been keyed then it could be a problem only a painter can fix. If its your standard "i didnt notice that one before" type of scratch then there is hope. Chips will need a clean surface then some touch up paint...check that it is a very very close match as what the paint looks like in the bottle and what it looks like when it cures can be two different things

If its the latter then you can buff them out. The strategy will depend on the quality of your paint. If you have'nt had your Line detailed by a pro, now is probably the right time. Pick one with a good rep and expect to leave the car with them for the day, make sure you check out previous customers cars to be satisfied your Lines in good hands...chances are the detailer will be able to show you a book or go in at the end of a day and check out the days work before committing.

If you want to do it yourself you can order a variety of products to work the clear. For me, I spent a few hours checking out this site, it in Oz and the guy can have your stuff delivered. I ordered a bunch of gear from this guy and he always delivered on time and as advertised and there is a good "how to" section
