Thanks for that PVA_Glue!

Sounds good! Is that thing auto? Can you please tell me all the details of the exhaust set-up you had (resonators, mild or stainless steel piping etc, cat-back or full, extractors?)

And if you have a pic, I'd love to see what your POD filter set-up looked like, did you use any heat-shield or CAI piping? Would you recommend the Blitz metal mesh one?

Does anyone know what kind've sound I'd get from just changing the muffler? (My mate just did this with his 2.5L Impreza RS and it sounds good)

How much will a 2.5" cat-back system cost roughly?

Thanks.

P.S. I've attached a mp3 of my stock standard R33 GTS-4 for anyone who's interested, just revving it in neutral today, take it to about 3, then 4.5 then 7 grand (first time I've done it, felt good! hehe)

R33GTS4_Rev.mp3

I have a '94 GTS Coupe with a 2.5" exhaust and a 4.5" tip, other then that its stock and it's fairly loud.

It looks like I have 2 Catalytic converters or something? One around about where the doors are and another where the back pillar/windscreen goes down (estimate). They're the same kinda shape and size so I'm not sure whats going on. Can anyone tell me what one of these are?

I will try and get a recording of mine, how did you guys record yours? Could I use like a phone and transfer it to pc, or will that be poor quality?

Hey mate, one is prolly cat converter and the other might be a resonator or something.

I recorded mine on a digi cam as a movie and then put the movie on the comp and just recorded the sound of it with the windows program 'Sound Recorder'. Try it with your phone and see how it goes.

Did your car already have the exhaust system fitted when you bought it? I'm trying to find out how much a 2.5" system will cost me.

Got a pic of your muffler, is it a cannon?

Stock muffler looks so shit hanging out the back of my car atm

I'm looking at getting the Apexi Power Intake POD filter, $165 on modyourcar.com.au

Yeah it was already on there, also I have a HKS Panel filter, it's not super high performance though and is gettin a bit old. I will take some pics of it and try a recording today, gotta install my splits and wash it.

Not sure what's going on with my computer but I can't play either of those .MOV files. Could somebody convert the files to mp3 or wav files or something so that I can at least listen to them? Thanks.

P.S. Anyone seen any places selling jap-brand (HKS, Blitz etc) exhausts for N/A R33s? (new or used)

    • Man, different parts but the same numbers is terrible @dbm7! And it doesn't help that most online shops don't list the part numbers at all. They just give a list of compatible models...
    • Slow when hot could also be because its getting more dynamic compression, OR things are getting a bit tighter once it is all expanded. If it were an earthing issue, typically I'd expect you to have it have issues all the time. Unless it's really a combination of both things. Where the higher compression, and things being a bit tighter, is giving that bit of extra load and you do need a slight clean up on the cables/connections.
    • Yeah, this is one of the most annoying things about nissan part numbers... I've got an unrelated example... Image is of the AT output shaft ~ they have the same part#, but clearly the shaft on the left is beefier design to that on the right ...the difference (essentially) is the 'lighter' shaft on the right, is for engines up to RB25DE (this includes RB20 variants) : the shaft on the left is for RB25/26DET(T)....are they interchangeable? Yes...but obviously one shaft is going to be stronger than the other...and, the lighter shaft is around USD115, but the heavier shaft closer to USD150...same part#... ...epc-data usually tells a tale ~ the amayama listing for 39100-23U60 has a note "Longest side is between 60 and 105 cm" ; no such info is there for 39100-23U70 ...and given the great disparity in price between the 2 parts, it makes me at least curious (to the point of caution) where the 'extra money' went? ...ie; these 2 parts have a cost difference that (to myself at least) isn't explained by 'plastic boot'...ie; with amayama there's AUD700 price difference ...plastic versus rubber?...I'm not seeing it like that...and 60cm ~ 105cm...??...that's a huge disparity....something hinky going on here... I'd try searching by VIN, not model... /2cents
    • I don't know for sure, but I'd expect them all to be interchangeable given the diff end and hub end don't move/change between any C34 series. Often Nissan will change part numbers and the aftermarket follows those year ranges; but the original part number change doesn't mean other parts won't fit. The change could be a change in material, internal parts or even just supplier. For example, all the RB gearbox to engine bolts are no longer available and there is a new part number instead. The only change is they went from cadmium plated bolts to zinc plated due to the issues manufacturing with Cadmium. They look different but work the same.
