As most of you know we've got a small amount of money put away for a banner for when we go to car shows, events etc. To be open an accountable (guess where I work) I am holding the sum of $190 with Michelle holding a couple of extra dollars.

We probably need one more fundraiser event to get enough money to order the banner. Any suggestions on the future fundraiser event/s would be appreciated.

Now the most important part is the design of the banner. I WANT YOUR IDEAS....

As some of you have probably have seen one of the NSW banners we used at Marques. It was an exact copy of the SAU banner you see on the top of the screen. In my humble opinion IMHO it looks pretty as a picture but was not wide enough to be eye-catching or informative enough.

What do you think should be on the banner?

Some basic idea’s I had are outlines below, please feel free to disagree and suggest alternative.

Basic banner size 2 meters by 1 meter (Assumed)

Bottom of banner has the website address “www.skylinesaustralia.com” as we are a primarily forum based group.

Big “SAU” across the middle of the banner with smaller wording underneath “Skylines Australia” so people understand exactly who we are.

Background pictures? Should we have them? What of? Parliament house? ACT outline? Pictures of R32, R33, R34? What about older skylines? What about newer skylines and the GTR?

stick with the sau in skylinesaustralia as one word with sau highlighted...ye and put net address on it at bottom corner in medium to small print .

the previous sydney skyline view was a winner idea especially in panorama shot.

if you want a bigger square sign i think also make it striking like the sydney skyline view.Say a r34 skyline ploughing through water or smoke,or even a drift scene, between two competitors.

you could just stick with the sydey sunset shot, why not its beautiful, only get a better skyline car photo, get it so it shows more of the car and some wheels.evening is good tho with lights on etc.

cant go wrong.

bye.

2 by 1 meter is huge. The R31 banner I had at Marques in the Park was only 1.5 by 1 meter. It also gets heaver and the cost goes up steeper the bigger you get.

The top banner is good, but a Canberra based background would look excellent and would look like it conforms with the rest of the club.

I think the ford club has a parliament house symbol in their banner already.

hey johnny rocket,

if we want some Canberra scenery in the banner, I rckn a pic from the top of mt Ainslee down to the lake/city/carillion/oph/war memorial might look ok. Probably one of the best shots of Canberra you can take. It would look good either early early morning, or late in the arvo when the sun starts to skim of the lakes water. But you would defn want the water jet on at the time of the pic :P

just a thought if Canberra scenery is to be included.

the carpark below the roundabout on the lake between war memorial and parliament house facing either way. Maybe even the carpark near the... carilion? whatever that thing is. Its on the lake aswell and has a fairly large area

What about newer skylines and the GTR?

If you are referring to the new Nissan GTR, then technically it is no longer a 'Skyline' as such, as to quote -

The Nissan GT-R, although no longer carrying the "Skyline" badge (because it is designed from the ground up) has heritage in the Nissan Skyline GT-R.

i think that would be too much detail. you wanna keep it simple so it stands out more. we dont really need photos and stuff, just as long as it has;

SKYLINESAUSTRALIA - ACT

or

SKYLINESAUSTRALIA

ACT DIVISION

colors can be varied, but definately keep it simple...

I really like that Mick. Looks cool but not sure how that'll look printed up on a banner......maybe too busy or might loose detail due to printing quality?? IMO it needs to have our name on it in big font so people looking at it from a distance can make out what it is. What'd you think? Top effort though

Ive seen some pretty damn good banners recently, I dont think that the quality would be comprimised to much once printed.

I only whipped that picture up quickly with Paint Shop pro so I can change it in any way to improve it.

I think a group shot in front of Parl house (if someone I know can arrange it *nudge nudge wink wink*) might be worth looking at before we finalise our decision. Then let Mick loose in photoshop with it.

I like micks' because my car is right up front. yay!

An idea that i have had for my sig could also work for a banner. it would be the outline of skyline tail lights of the different models, maybe a little body to help differenciate between them. it would probably work best with only a couple (maybe only 1) colours on a solid colour background. R31 & R32 drivers side, R33 with the whole rear end (it is the middle and most popular model), followed by the R34 & V35 passenger side.

SKYLINESAUSTRALIA

OO O_O OO OO oO oO

R32 R32 R33 R34 V35

I hope this is understandable. i can knock up a prototype if it would be helpful. Also, a mate of mine is a graphic designer and is happy to help us make the banner as good as it can be.

cheers

Thanks everyone for their input, please add more as you think of it.

Currently we seem to have a general want for "skylinesaustralia" or "SKYLINESAUSTRALIA" as the logo with SAU highlighted in some way.

The web address down the bottom seemed to be generally accepted

A very strong want for a Canberra background of some kind

large clear and readable font that is not over shadowed from the background (a very sensible idea)

Mick I really like your draft, can you adjust your idea/picture with the following ideas

Full black background

On top in large capital and white letters "SKYLINESAUSTRALIA" with SAU in another colour (should take about 1/3 to 1/4 of the hight of the flag)

To the left side under the first S add the letters A and U under each other. The S the A and the U in the same colour as the top SAU.

The picture sitting below the "SKYLINESAUSTRALIA" and to the right of the SAU

Add the web address in slightly smaller lettering to the bottom.

This should accomplish what everyone has come up with except Donnan's idea (which I really like, but I don’t think we have room)

Full black background

On top in large capital and white letters "SKYLINESAUSTRALIA" with SAU in another colour (should take about 1/3 to 1/4 of the hight of the flag)

IMHO, white on full black will be too stark, twilight sky perhaps or blue, a lighter blue to dark gradient, like Mick said earlier, print on vinyl is very clear now... look at those vinyl (car) paint jobs they were doing at Summernats. I would like to keep it similar in colour to the SAU logo because we are still one family.

The design is good, but it does look a little busy/complicated for a banner (and a little dark).

You might be able to run a black border around the picture, instead of a complete black background. It would be easier on the eyes as it keeps the picture in focus and out of the stitching/holes.

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
