If the engine has:

i)i) 5 cylinders or less 4000 rpm.

ii)ii) 6 cylinders 3200 rpm.

iii)iii) 8 cylinders 3300 rpm.

iv)iv) more than 8 cylinders 4300 rpm.

v)v) If the engine is a rotary engine 4500 rpm rpm.

In selecting the 45 degree alignment from the outlet of a motor vehicle fitted with two or more outlets, only the angle resulting in the microphone being farthest from any other outlet must be used.

4.1.44.1.4 The height of the microphone above the test site surface shall be equal to that of the orifice of the exhaust outlet ±25mm but shall not be less than 200mm above the test site surface.

4.1.54.1.5 The distance of the microphone from the exhaust outlet orifice shall be 525mm ±25mm.

having an exhaust silencer is illegal in nsw

motorbikes db limit is 100db

Yeah its illegal but honestly wouldnt you rather put it on ? I was with my cousin on the weekend he has one on his RX7 And his got a bridgeport 13B Very Very loud , A police officer pulled him over and asked him why it was so loud ( He didnt see the police officer in enough time to press the button ) He told the officer there was a loose screw in the engine thats why it was loud he opened up the bonnet made it look like he was screing something pressed the button and it went qiuet and the cop believed him

ahh no, i got my exhaust done by hi tech mufflers made to pass db levels (84db at 4800rpm) so i dont have to dick around with silencers and have to put up with that annoying drone in the cabin. and it's not restrictive at all. i honestly don't know how people drive around with loud exhausts day in day out.

and it's sounds like that cop was a dumb shit btw

Do cops know if you have a silencer or not?

you would get into alot of Sh*ts if they found out rite? :P

is it possible if u could record ur exhaust with and without the silencer?

another question... r motorbikes, truck & buses the same? i.e 90db? or do they have another figure?

I read somewhere that cars were to be 90db or less and motorbikes 93db!!!!!

Harleys are that at least just at idle!!!!

I've been sent a letter home from the EPA surprisingly for a reported loud exhaust, mine is pretty darn quiet. Someone must of dobbed me in.

Anyways had to go to a muffler shop and get it tested.

For a Skyline, the letter said it had to be revved to half the rev range, but mine said 4500rpm. Got it tested, all was under until the throttle was lifted at which point a couple of small pops set the reader over 90db.

Ouch!!! Get a life dobbers!!!

Man your boring i do my neighbours a favour waking them up in the morning. they thank me everyday :P

Loud cars for life :)

sorry man i dont really have time for the track ,

Look cops can bust you for a silencer but what can they do ??? They can issue you with a defect in which case you wil go pass it and then go from There ??? But i dont think many cops would pick these electronic ones as it is very hard to notice it unless your the smartest cop around. there aint many of them

gah.!

speaking about the exhaust... couple of street racers... revving their engines and flooring the throttle down my road!

grrr.! *God Dam street racers* lol :P

bet u their ricers.. i'm trying to get a glimpse of the cars

    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around with a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
    • Yep, this bit another local owner. I caught it before putting the transmission back into the car, what I noticed was the pressure plate fingers weren't flat and even. It's more obvious with the pull style clutch because the throwout bearing ring was visibly not flat once everything is put together. Nismo should really update their instructions to call out this specific detail. I'm not even sure the clutch as-shipped orients everything properly.
