Ok Guys

Id like to build a 10second car in the future. Problem is im a P-plater and i cant afford a second car. I brought a completly stock R33 s2 and was wondering if people have transformed their non turbo's into 10second cars?

Also what is involved apart from turbo conversion? is a full motor transplant the way to go or are ther other options?

Am off my p's next year, will either start the conversion then or the year after, depending on the price.

how long is a piece of string?

more power, new engine, suspension work, weight reduction, the list goes on.

to answer your question simply, yes.

what are your limitations? if it's money than don't bother.

you have answered your own question.

a 10 second car isn't cheap, even by force induced standards. expect to spend at least double for an NA build.

as a reference the ferrari enzo runs a low 11 second and the mclaren f1 runs a mid-11 seconds.

cheapest most cost effective 10 second 1/4 mile non turbo vehicle would be a motorbike.

i have seen your threads around various parts of the forum, it's understandable that you are new to the whole modifcation/car scene. however a little self research and study doesn't go astray, people will not spoon feed you with a formula that works. i suggest you search and read up on things a little before you post threads, in a few months time you'll be looking back in retrospect going 'what the hell was i thinking'

i'll let this thread run a little while longer :(

Obviously a bit of a different question. People will have mixed opinions about whether or not its worth the trouble/cost. No i cant afford a 10sec car now, but in a couple of years i may be able too. I still have a while untill my loan is paid off and am off my P's next year. Alls i wanted to know is if people have done it or not really.

I read the sticky one about turbo conversion but dont know if i believe a full conversion would only cost 3grand. I thought a minimum would be 7grand for a decent conversion, accounting for the variouse problems that would arise. Add to the fact that i want a 10sec car i thought probably a total of 15grand. To those people out there putting shit on me for asking the question, obviously the build wouldnt happen over night.

I guess i want to know if im close to being on target with my price?

get a vtec guage so you know "how much vtec is left" man i loved that thread

just put double welds on your floor pan, and ignore your computer, the manifolds fine.

just a bit of food for thought... 15 grand wont get u 10 seconds down the strip... i just forked 15 thru my gtr and its hardly a drag car.... maybe high 11's

as for n/a.... very dificult to get massive numbers unless you completely strip it and fork out enough for a deposit on a house.

as for converting your na to turbo in a year or so?? just buy a complete rb25det they are relatively cheap these days.

good luck but im sure u will find out soon that numbers arent as easy to get as writing them down on paper takes patience time and alotta money and preparation

Is 10sec really that hard to get? i thought it was pretty standard now days? i just want the car to have the power and looks. an all round package f you know what i mean

3 grand for a turbo conversion is very do-able, provided you have some know how and can do the labour yourself. with all the parts ready (ecu, manifold, turbo, lines, pipe work, intercooler), it can be done in a weekend.

double the cost if you pay someone else to do it.

not even close. provided that there might be a $15K 10 second skyline combination somewhere, but you will not be able to do that reliably. expect upwards of $30-40K as a general rule of thumb.

10 seconds is easy, some people are just cheque book racers nowadays. go to shop xxxx throw around $40K and bingo you have your car with xxx RWKW and a 10 second machine. they don't really end up racing professionally it simply becomes a bragging point. the guys who take it seriously and who you really want to check out are two.06l, 2rismo, na_r33, giant, jas/slo32, bu5ster, etc.

it seems to be that you're simply chasing a number, because you can/want to. start with the basics and work your way up. learn to control the car and it's dynamics, how it reacts when you break traction, in the wet, under brakes, etc etc.

i also aggree with everything above.

On that note though, i turbo'd an n/a car for <$1000, inc ecu, injectors, highflow t3, stock manifold, sidemount and piping, dump and exhaust, all second had though, went hard, just food for thaught.

Your N/A engine would be fine, there would be no need to get a 25det, because to be making that sort of power reliably, your going to have to rebuild the entire engine anyway, and nothing will be left stock.

before you decide a 10 second car is for you, think why, and drive a 12 second car, for most people a car such as an r33 in the 12's would be waaay fast enough, esp for street, and you can keep some drivability.

Im not much of a rev head on the streets anyway, because seriously whats the point? loose my licence and my car? get a huge fine? just stupid in my opinion so i dont need the power for the street.

been thinking about this for awhile, and probably is a bit too expensive to make the N/A exactly what i want, which is a shame cause it is a top car. i was thinking better the devil you know, type thing rather then gettin a gtst or gtr which chances r has been thrashed when i got one which is in pretty good nic.

Perhaps the better option would be to try and get a healthy amount of hp and kw at the wheels. Probably better for my frame of mind anyway seems how i dont really go to the 1/4 all the time

I've just spent $20g just on my engine and it still wont be a 10sec car, so my hr31 "worth around 8-10k" plus 20g engine = nearly 30grand.

Once u get to the 11sec mark, 1sec quicker costs big bucks.

Dude when u say i want 10sec car Vin Diesel pops in my head "and all the wank what goes along with it"

U'll be happy with a 25det conversion, pon cams, injectors, zorst, boost and a good tune.

what you want to do and how you want to do it is your choice.

but when you look at it from a more mature, financial, 'was it worth it?' point of view. your 10 second car is just an excuse for a hypothetical penis extension

    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching
