jimmy m -- i think importing would be a better choice, like you say.

Hopefully the engine is all good and no problems there, and you can spend the money you have saved for a few mods or making it look nicer. As long as you have a little extra in the bank, sounds all good to me.

The best thing about the R32 is the RB20DET engines and parts are so cheap.. $500 maybe for a gearbox, $1500 for a new engine. So much cheaper than R33 major parts. All are readily available, and there are other options if you want to take them later (RB25DET, RB25DET gearbox, etc).

Good luck!

yeah as pred said R32 parts are dirt cheap theres containers full of parts coming regularly.

as for the recalls, I know one was to do with the transmission on the first batch GTS4's, and some GTRs had headlight issues. I don't have specific details as that sort of documentation isn't covered in most Jap books on skylines etc for me to read up. I do know there were 3 before 1991 August when the R32 was redesigned (sorta like a S II R33 compared to an Series 1 R33, same car, just with all the bugs ironed out).

One important thing to check with a 15 yr old car is if its had its 10 year major check done. Its sorta like a mega roadworthy in japan where almost all the important parts of the car are tested, and replaced in order to meet the standards. Most road driven 15 yr old cars hve this, so its not a major issue, but you know someones done a thorough check 5 years ago on the car.

Also pay attention to where the car comes from, coastal towns = salt corrosion, mountains = snow corrosion on the underbody.

You're budget seems ideal to getting a 15 yr old R32 GTSt. However most of the bearings and bushes on the car will have a fair bit of wear on them, so keep some cash handy for replacing them as they go.

I found my car back in May 2003. It landed here in March and unfortunately has had a hiccup after it landed and has been sitting there for 7 weeks. I should finally get it next week sometime. I am a very impatient person and have no idea how I have lasted one year waiting for it. But it will be worth the wait.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
