Im actually surprised the cop knew enough to recognize the car was stock standard...

I suppose some if them may actually know what they are talking about...

More like he popped the bonnet and didn't see a bright colour pod and bling bling fmic piping so he assumed it was stock

I had my i/c piping painted black and cut a section of the stock snorkel to fit around the piping. I also have a pod shielding around my filter that I painted black aswell, only somebody who knew what they were looking at could tell it wasn't stock.

any idea where i can purchase the pod shielding? i'm in sydney

Ha the irony... you do realise that HID kits on R33s are illegal and void your insurance policy?

Umm yeah i do, i don't have HID's on my car though :D

Any HID kit fitted to a vehicle where HID's don't come from factory are illegal because they don't have self levelling functions. Then again what doesn't void your insurance these days.

Luckily im insured with Shannons and all my mods have been listed so i should be fine

how much do Shannons cost?

Good idea Yo-Yo, I'm gonna paint my pod housing black too

angryghost you can purchase some flexible heat shield material from clark rubber for $20 a metre,

they're silver and only provides heat resistence on one side, the other side is soft foam.

Here's my topic about it Cold Air For Pod Filter

    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
    • Man, I miss having a phone that fits into my hand!
    • The speed this thing starts up is making me want to replace my old one. Though my old one immediately kicks into reverse camera as soon as reverse is engaged, it's clearly not part of the android system. For everything else though, starting up, connecting to hotspot, opening maps, starting music in spotify is easily a ~2 minute affair.
    • Yeah well per the video it took 15s for the stock unit to start up....even if I give it a few seconds discount for starting that is at least 12 sec before you get a reverse camera if you are trying to leave a park.  The android unit is way faster, but 2016 for the stock unit is a long time ago in consumer electronics
