I got defected as well today for pod filter and exhaust noise, and the rear tyres. Im supposed to be getting a letter from the EPA and have to go to the inspection station for tests. Any idea if there gonna test for pollution, or just db level? The cop suggested to get a silencer, and said that i can make a custom pod enclosure, as long as its fully enclosed.

I however have an Apexi ECV, will this work at reducing the noise level, as its installed by previous owner, but the controller isnt( i have it lying around though)?

Thanks

i cant believe how worried you guys get with your mods? It must be a hell of alot stricter over east than in wa. As long as everything is secure and doesnt make too much noise AND you know what your talking about so you can show the cops you arent just some retard then most of the time you get away with it.

ECU flash wont get you into trouble (and if they try to tell you that, thats when you need to explain how things actually work), if anything the reflash takes fuel away from the tune since they run dirty rich and makes the car MORE emissions friendly.

I know of people that have emissions test with no cats whats so ever and they have passed, its all down to the inspector.

I bet your leaving cause you get payed WAY too much to risk your life protecting others? and also, theres WAY too many cops out there, i mean, 1 patrol car for 4 neibourhoods is too much allready......

only for 4 more weeks then im outa there

steve

note: im being sarcastic, incase someone didnt realise.......

you can be a dumb ass cock opps i mean cop faster than tradesmen can be fully certified. now thats f**ked. your give some dick shit the power and control over law someone with less IQ than a 5th grader IMO. go figure. let me ask you when was the last time you saw a cop do something good that did not involve giving a speeding ticket or j-walking ticket.

So can someone give me advice on this. The advice the cop gave me doesnt seem to relate to the rules at all. Putting silencer on for epa test, dont think that can be done. Pod filter in enclosure with fmic, dont think thats correct either.

If you waiting for them to send you a letter then if i was you and was concerned about your points and court action i would change all those things back to normal as i bet thats what the end result will be plus a hefty fine and loss of points. its the losing of points the major bitch. and try to keep your driving record clean the cops will keep using that against you all the time you enter court again.

^^ hey bonsai,

I'm not sure what you mean but it seems you don't like cops much.

Mark, you won't pass epa with a silencer in the muffler unless you like weld it in ... best bet is to see if you can get that other working maybe you could sneak that through

Well my driving record was clean until now. So am i gonna get fined and demerit points taken off if i dont pass first go? Do u think that EPA will be testing for pollution even though the police officer only mentioned noise test?

Thanks

Not really. You can either do a bachelor or diploma, one takes 4 years and the other takes 2. You need a HSC with a UAI of 65 to apply. Both are university courses too.

Not like a TAFE courses that doesnt require any prerequisites - people are labourers, mechanics, panel beaters and spray painters for a reason. Some are switched on but others aren't.

Regarding police work, here is a very small number of incidents that get released to the media...

Work Police do

I would have two things to say. Most cops are OK. I am always polite and try to have my license waiting for them when I get pulled over which is always for an RBT!!! I have had them ask me to rev my engine up to 4000rpm to see how loud it is and they have always said good job and left me alone...

But I hate the fact that I am always pulled over because I drive an import. I live in an area where there are smoky shit-boxes running rings around the town and none of them are ever pulled over and asked to rev their engine or have an epa check... It is a bit discrimitory... But hey, we all know thats the way things are when we buy imports...

hey mark,

any of those adjustable valves that control zorst noise or silencers aren't allow for an epa test; just like you can't have an easily adjustable blow of valve. The idea being that you can turn everything down when you go to do the test then drive around the block twist and flick some swithes etc and the car is back to being a loud, fast and angry import :(

Thanks BLK33T

I have got a Fujitsibo muffler which was given by the previous owner as a spare. How would that go noise wise. Its got Jasma on it, so its approved in Japan.

Actually, you can be a cop faster than a tradie.... my mate is a cop. Was a courier before that. Low UAI, no qualifications, 6 months in the acadamy. But that is for Feds, not NSW.

dude, when i had my f*kitsibu muffler on with a mid muffler in the system it was whisper quiete. sounded stock..

so that wont be a problem IF u have a mid muffler..

I HOPE U DO

Ok, Emissions wise (hopefully i only have to do noise test), stock is the only option?

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
