I recently had my car dyno'd for the new PFC and I also had the AVC-R tweaked. My turbo died since then and now have a S1 stock turbo on. It's a S2, so I don't know how they differ if at all.

Problem is it always over boosts by ~.1 kg/cm, no matter what the duty. I've resorted to setting the boost to .5 kg/cm2 to get a peak of .62 kg/cm2.

The previous setting was .75 kg/cm2 @ 82% duty which it held rock solid just slightly tapering off at the top end.

Any ideas? Nothing has changed but the turbo. It's getting frustrating, spent about an hour last night on the

freeway messing with it...

Hmm sounds interesting. I have just bought an AVC-R and haven't yet installed it so would be interested in hearing how this works out - I've just been reading the docs to get my head around what to expect etc.

Does it hold .1kg/cm2 flat more no matter what, or does it spike? So basically it just looks like its set up to run .6kg/cm or is it that it looks like its struggling to hold .5 but failing?

I can't remember, if you have RPM specific duty cycles set does that override the "blanket" duty cycle setting? I guess they are probably mutually exclusive. Also, is there any adjustment on the duty cycle for each gear or anything like that? I'm pretty sure mine is going to need a reasonable amount of tinkering beyond the basic "Set boost to xxxkg/cm and use xxx duty cycle to do so" to hold boost steadily.

I had the same thing with mine before i pulled it off the road. First thing, check the reading against a separate boost gauge. Also check along your cooler pipes for any kind of leaks. Failing that, post up your duty and on what boost. Mine used to spike, then settle back to its setting after. Very frustrating. Mine used to spike like a monster to like 1.2bar, then i found out that my cooler pipe had been rubbing away on some metal to the point where there was a 2mm slit in it! :D

Yeah could have a leak somewhere. To get my low boost of .75 i had to set at .5 with 52% duty. That was before i found the hole in cooler pipe though. Also, check to see if your self learn function is stuck on. This can alter your boost duty. Avc-r is a good unit providing everything is running right. On high boost i never had a problem before the hole, would hold 1 bar from 2.8k to 7.2k

    • Should be more than fine, especially the overall fuel pressure would never exceed 3.5bar (assuming that thing never gets more than 0.5bar of boost in stock form). According to the chart, it's 11amps.
    • I definitely know the first rule here, look first, ask second. I've seen many people get roasted 😂 I found a few diagrams for the RB, but I'm yet to come across one for the VQ. From what I have read, the pump gets the +12v along with the FPCM, and it's the negative wire that gets passed through the resistor to regulate the voltage. So I assume I can just ground the negative wire at the pump to eliminate the FPCM control. But I really wanted to see the VQ circuit diagram first to make sure I understood it correctly. Once the new pump is in I'll do some testing to see how it behaves, and in the meantime, I'll keep looking for a wiring diagram. Thanks for your help mate, your time is greatly appreciated.    
    • Maybe? I have the Supercheap ToolPro low thingo. It has a somewhat smaller diameter lifting "bowl" than you would expect on a workshop grade trolley jack, and a split rubber pad to suit that diameter. It clears the "N1" style skirts I have. Probably wouldn't if the jack's bowl and a suitably larger rubber block were in use. Having said that though.....you only need the rubber block to exist on the inner side of the pinchweld, so could carve away any rubber that fouled the skirt, leaving some there for "insurance" </simples>
    • I used to do that (sills with rubber jack block).. ... then I got side skirts, and there's no way for the jack to actually work there, the jack pad itself on the jack is too big. Is the answer to use a... smaller (?) jack? Hmmm.
    • I have too much trauma from every skyline I've ever seen having crushed jack points/pinch welds lol.    Yep, works 100%, it's what I use when I'm using the quick jack. Don't know why I can't also bring myself to do the same thing when I'm using a jack. I blame the skyline PTSD.
