OK Folks..... I've chosen Anzac Day, 25th of April, Friday, for the beginning of a 2 day Moonta cruise/fishing/caravan pk trip for those who are keen.... I'll pretty much stay overnight Friday and Sat, drive back Sunday cause I gotta work Mon... most others will be workers too I'm guessing...

I have obligations for dawn service on Anzac day, but the afternoon is generally free for me. I'm thinking we all meet up there around 6pm on the Friday, take some pics and then everyone goes and checks into their accomodation. I don't do itineraries but I think I'll personally be found on the jetty most of the time, and will have a mass BBQ on sunday afternoon around 2pm before I drive back to Adelaide... feel free to make your own plans, but the more from SAU I see there the bigger my grin will be :D

So shoutout if you're keen, if your free. If you have a boat, there IS a launch at Port Hughes not less than 10km south... would LOVE to see some boats out there >

Oh yeah and its time some of these fishing experts showed me how to do it, cause I suuuuuck...

-D

we need some more girls so come on you girls that come on the sau site come and do something with us

I've booked a cabin for myself, writeoff and a couple others, on the 24th-27th of April, Anzac long weekend... if you guys are interested in coming, pls msg me for more details. I have a couple people confirmed for the trip and would like to see a few more friendly faces... theres a great jetty for fishing/swimming, a pizza bar better than any in adelaide's CBD and the clearest skies you'll ever see this time of year...anyone out there wanna get away for a w/e? The fishing is good, as is the peace and quiet...

suss13.

I was in kadina a coulpe weeks back. with my black 34.

My friends dad owns the wombat hotel there, so we are up there a fair bit drinking and carrying on.

I like it there, but the exchange hotel is full of stares if your not a local.

sounds like an interesting trip. whats the head count ?

Just got back from Moonta today, such a nice place. My cricket club is off to Wallaroo on Friday for end of season trip, so might see some of you guys around!

Yep I'm heading up there Thurs nite

Unfortunately some who wanted to go cant make it, but myself and Writeoff will be there. Not sure who else, but everyones free to come up and say hi for the day or if they want to book themselves a cabin or tent site, that'd be cool too.

PM Me if you wanna meet up there

-Dohmar

ill get my mate to register his 33 now so we can all catch up. yer exchange will give ya stares!! but pubs in moonta arent as bad

mah exchange? they're racist against windows server email ? cmon not all companies run linux sendmail .... QQ....

stupidity aside *ahem*, Should be a nice time. If anyone out there decides come up there for the day or whatever, pls remember that the small town cops will be watching u, so dont do anything stupid :D

Hey Folks

Well after a few days to recouperate, I can say I enjoyed the trip to Moonta. In the end it was just myself and Writeoff and a friend of ours. Weather was sucky but we had a great time drinking and talking shit.

On a sour note, while we were there, someone went thru the caravan park sifting thru the cars for stuff to steal. Both my and writeoffs alarms went off during this time, around 3-4 am. We were, however, able to inspect the area before disarming the alarms and there was nothing taken from us in particular. Due to this incident, next moonta camp/fishing/boozing trip will be held in 2-3 months time, but will only have details given out via invite... if you're keen to come along, eat some pizza, bbq, drink booze and perhaps maybe even just drop a fishing rod/crab net into the ocean, then pst me. i want to get numbers now. i know half of u people arent gonna bother appearing, but i'll try n get something happening regardless.

Ahh yeah. And i wont plan it for a long weekend the next time. extra tarrifs + police activity is a bother. A fri nite - sun morning expedition is all I'm proposing now.

-D

That sucks mate - did they actually break in to either of your Lines?

Yep I am keen for one of these weekends in coming times - much more likely later spring/early summer would suit me best. Did you actually manage to get any lines/nets in and catch anything?

Neither of our cars were damaged or anything of ours stolen. We actually thought the weather had set the alarms off. It wasn't until I was waiting to checkout the next morning that I heard that someone else had a lot of stuff taken from their car but I don't know the details.

We took 3 crab nets and about 4 fishing rods but only managed about 4 hours of fishing due to the weather and Jake & my slackness to get up early. We caught 6 blue crabs, about 20-25 undersized sand crabs (which we threw back) & 1 undersized red mullet (which I threw back but didn't look like s/he survived us trying to figure out what kind of fish it was and what the legal size was). Not all that successful but it was fun... and cold.

    • Get an inspection camera up there.
    • Yeah, but look at the margin in viscosity between the 40 and the 60 at 125°C. It is not very large. It is the difference between 7 and 11 cP. Compare that to the viscosity at only 90°C. The viscosity axis is logarithmic. The numbers at 90 are ~15 and ~35. That is about half for the 40 wt oil and <half for the 60. You give up viscosity EXPONENTIALLY as temperature rises. Literally. That is why I declare thicker oil to be a bandaid, and a brittle one at that. Keep the oil temperature under about 110°C and you should be better off.   Having said all of that, which remains true as a general principle, if you have indeed lost enough oil from the sump that the pump was seeing slightly aerated oil, then all bets are off. That would of course cause oil pressure to collapse. And 35 psi is a collapse given what you were doing to the engine. Especially if the oil was that hot and viscosity had also collapsed. And I would put money on rod or main bearings being the source of the any noise that registered as knock. Hydraulic lifters should be able to cope with the hotter oil and lower pressure enough to prvent too much high frequency noise, although I am willing to admit it could be the source.
    • Thanks for the reply mate. Well I really hope its a hose then not engine out job
    • But.... the reason I want to run a 60 weight is so at 125C it has the same viscosity as a 40 weight at 100C. That's the whole reason. If the viscosity changes that much to drop oil pressure from 73psi to 36psi then that's another reason I should be running an oil that mimics the 40 weight at 100C. I have datalogs from the dyno with the oil pressure hitting 73psi at full throttle/high RPM. At the dyno the oil temp was around 100-105C. The pump has a 70psi internal relief spring. It will never go/can't go above 70psi. The GM recommendation of 6psi per 1000rpm is well under that... The oil sensor for logging in LS's is at the valley plate at the back of  the block/rear of where the heads are near the firewall. It's also where the knock sensors are which are notable for 'false knock'. I'm hoping I just didn't have enough oil up top causing some chatter instead of rods being sad (big hopium/copium I know) LS's definitely heat up the oil more than RB's do, the stock vettes for example will hit 300F(150C) in a lap or two and happily track for years and years. This is the same oil cooler that I had when I was in RB land, being the Setrab 25 row oil cooler HEL thing. I did think about putting a fan in there to pull air out more, though I don't know if that will actually help in huge load situations with lots of speed. I think when I had the auto cooler. The leak is where the block runs to the oil cooler lines, the OEM/Dash oil pressure sender is connected at that junction and is what broke. I'm actually quite curious to see how much oil in total capacity is actually left in the engine. As it currently stands I'm waiting on that bush to adapt the sender to it. The sump is still full (?) of oil and the lines and accusump have been drained, but the filter and block are off. I suspect there's maybe less than 1/2 the total capacity there should be in there. I have noticed in the past that topping up oil has improved oil pressure, as reported by the dash sensor. This is all extremely sketchy hence wanting to get it sorted out lol.
