If you get a 3071 and front mount you'll need a pfc, personally I'd trash all that advise and go with a wicked set of blue or purple neons...............street cred is where its at.

I know, I know..................just kiddin'

Actually if you get the 3071, for the $680 I'd definitely buy the fitting kit as well.

PS I have a 3076 and it is a very good turbo, so the 3071 would be just as good with a bit more down low, I've seen guys on here claim 270+rwkw from them. They are basically the equivalent of the HKS gtrs [different ex.housing]. The HKS turbo's are made by Garrett anyway.

Turbos are for pussies.

Neons and a veilside kit bro. Set of those sick vault star chromies too. bollocksin hektik matey.

Probably want a monster tacho, too. Those chrome wheels send your engines rev limit through the roof so you'll need one that goes to at least 12.

Uleeeeeeeh.

Hola, como estas?

I have found a turbo I think would suit thhe power I am after. Does anyone have any experience with the garrett GT3071R or know a little about it??

Gracias

Hey Stevo,

Thats funny, I have a GT3071R on mine... Although I bought my kit for $1900.00, so the price on that link is CHEAP!

Great turbo for response and mid range power and torque... But even though it says that it is a 550hp turbo, dont expect to get more than 240 - 250rwkw using one of these as the rear housing is actually quite small (which gives you the response).

Im running 18psi at the manifold - about 20 at the turbo and mine makes 236rwkw, but the torque is the best thing about my set up as it makes over 550nm at 4,500 - 5,000 which is a great feeling and more than enough to pin you into your seat (and smoke tyres :().

Note: My car uses an A'Pexi Power FC, Front mount intercooler, big exhaust, Splitfire ignition coils, 550cc injectors, Bosch 040 fuel pump etc. you wont make as much power without extra mods if you bolt an aftermarket turbo.

I would only advise getting the 3071R if you are looking for a really quick and responsive turbo that will give great mid range and reasonable top end. If you want heaps of power I would reccomend looking at a GT3082R or something high mount, like a 3037R.

Here's a pic of my dyno tune (the car has made more power since) - have a look at the curve, there is almost no lag and the mid range is excellent.

G'day Mick,

That is all very interesting. How come you didn't get the GT3082R? Where is most of it power in the 3082 if the GT3071R is more mid-high range? I actually wouldn't mind more power than 240kw so maybe the bigger turbo is a better option...

If you want more power than the 3071, go for the garret GT3076 [equivalent to the HKS 3037].

My dyno results are here:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Rb...0&start=380

and 12th entry down.

The big difference with a 3071 vs any turbo that is bigger is you need custom dumps, intakes etc. So pay say $1700 for the turbo and then another say sub $5000 for setting it up.

The 3071 bolts up, and with the fitting kit, sort of uses the std set up, the 3076 may do this as well, but your throttling it and it won't see anywhere near its full potential.

The 3076 is [one of] the ideal turbo's for the 25.

So your saying for what you get out of the 3071, although lacks a little overall power still outways spending big on custom mounts to fit say the 3076 or higher?? You did mention the 3076 may bolt on but unlike to 3071 it doesnt say this on the garrett website...

Your results are very impressive man!! I'd love for you to take me for a drive one day :P:D

I personally don't know of a bolt up kit for the 3076 [there could be one, I just don't know of it]. If you did find such a kit, things like your filter, dump, exhaust, manifold etc would all hold it back a bit, you'd end up with something that is unable to work [huff] properly. I had to get all my stuff made up and it took a lot of mucking about to get sorted and settled. Its not cheap!!

This is presicely why many ppl opt for the HKS kits, they are a bolt up system. They are very $$$ to start with, but probably cost less in the long run.

I didn't do this because I had a clear plan on what components I was going to use and my goals.

The reason I didnt go for the GT3082R was because it was about $400 more expensive and I dont think youre able to use the standard air flow meter or inlet pipe (from the air filter to the turbo intake) because the extra suction sucks it closed, and the extra air mass is to much for the standard air flow meter (I could be wrong about this) so you will need an aftermarket pipe and probably a Z32 300zx AFM.

Results from different engines will always vary quite a bit, you might make more power from a 3071R than me for some reason, you dont know until you have done it. :teehee:

Dont get me wrong, the GT3071R is a great turbo, just dont expect 300rwkw +

Yeah fair enough. Well im in no rush so maybe ill hold out a little longer and depending on funds choose a path that i should be able to back up with $$ if need be. Im extremely impressed with tridentt dyno figures and even though its alot more dosh it might be something worth saving up for....ill see.

  • 2 weeks later...

depends how much power you want so work out what you want.

You can make up to 270 kw at the wheels on standard injectors by upping the base fuel pressure via a adj press reg as i have done a couple now back to backed on various dynos. These setups had Adj exhaust gears, a gcg turbo at first which was rebuilt by Mrturbo with his core due to failed gcg cores, aftermarket ecu, pistons but can be done with standard as long as the tune and boost are kept to a minimum, splitfire coils.

I have also done one with standard internals using power fc, front mount, garrett turbo, adj FPR and exhaust gear which made 270rwkw and has been doing it for two years now.

So if you are only after 240 or so you can definitly make it on standard internals with just minor mods

    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
    • Welcome Adam. Car looks great!
    • "With a 1.5-WAY, the LSD is effective only during acceleration."
    • Well it wasn't as easy as I thought.... and it also wasn't in my original manual which I did end up finding. They discuss the process in the Nismo catalogue though and it requires slight machining. Page 145.  NISMO PARTS CATALOGUE 2020
    • I'm an idiot, my intercooler is rated for 1000hp. I had clicked on the wrong product. Knowing the delta P would be nice, but I'm doubtful I'll do it. Now as for an EMAP, that would be great and I'll get around to it eventually but from my findings in my last post, I'm considering a turbo swap now.
