Hey guys,

I would like to know if it worth changing the oil pump from standard to aftermarket (JUN etc)?

I just bought a R32 in Japan and as a first time GTR32 owner I do not want to blow the engine due to oil stravation....

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Cheers,

thuy

Its a big job to do for just the oil pump.

Here's some things to do instead

-Always start the car and drive straight away(no sitting idle)

-Never use more than 25% throttle until the oil temp guage has moved above 70degrees

-Always use slow shifts until the oil has warmed up

-Dont use cheap shitty oil

-Always allow for cooldown time

Easy

If you plan on taking it on the track, overfill the sump to the bottom of the hump on the dipstick, and try not to use r compound tyres (they generate lots of grip which moves the oil in the sump)

If you blow the motor up for whatever reason, THEN you do the jun oil pump

wow thanks for the great tip

couple of question though?

-how do i know when is 25% throttle?

-does it help if i get a greddy oil sump?

and i think since you know so much about the car I also would like to know the following

- i just bought a Greddy T517z(2) would this fit on the hks dump?

-with the following mods

turbo back exhaust

oil cooler

pfc

is it ok for me to make 250kw@the wheels using standard injectors/pump? and not blow the engine? It will be tune by ben at Racepace

thanks for the helpmate

mate i would suggest putting a bigger oil pump for sure.

If by "bigger" you mean "higher flow" then you will increase the risk of oil starvation, as the higher flow pump will push more oil to the top of the motor than the standard pump. This will empty the sump more quickly, unless you add other oil control mods.

Read SK's oil control thread Here

+1 for N1GTRs tips, re 25% throttle, I think he just means take it easy until its warmed up, ie just drive at normal traffic speed. Also;

- dont hit the rev limiter

- dont use oil that's too thick. IMO ?W-40 is as high as you need to go with a quality oil.

- providing the injectors and pump are in good condition they'll be fine for 250

Only reaspn for pump failure is the gearset cracks in the pump, nothing to do with lack of flow. As previously mentioned more flow is actually worse as the problem is oil control in the RB's. With too much oil being delivered to the head and under high G-forces it just adds to the problem of oil starvation. Check the oil control thread if your serious about building a tough RB. Otherwise leave those bits stock. Its kinda all or nothing in some ways.

I read the oil control thread but don't really understand it.

As I said I'm not going to even rev over 5500rpm nor take it to track/ hard corner etc....

Just want a reliable good looker car (i bought gtr32 after I sold the chaser manual) have I made a mistake?

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?

LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
