Hey cosmokram3r,

Let me know how you get on... My 33 had an unfortunate conversation with a brick letterbox and I am possibly considering just having it repaired and then a full respray (I can get it repaired for a couple of hundred bucks, but it's about $700/$800 with painting... so if it works out at like $2000 for a full respray then it might be worth it as the paint's in 'alright' condition... nothing too flash).

$1500 will almost certainly be a cheap, bad quality job

I was kinda thinking along those lines... I would have expected amore in the region of $2000-$3000, possibly up to $4000

If you sand back and prime the whole car yourself it's more like $700

I had a quarter panel of mine done at Imperial Finish Body Works on Centre Rd in Springvale. Came out great, happy to recommend them. Don't know about prices for full respray though. Believe the owners name is Murray.

my mate told me the panel beaters that would do it for around $1500-2000 are in noble park a few shops down from noble maccas.. i heard DT panels is good but expensive so yehhh wandering now if it would be better to go to the place my mate was talking about, he had his car done there because my mate brings him business, sanded it all down himself think it cost him around $1000, if you've noticed a ferrari red r32 around noble/dande area thats it it looks real good.. i just didnt know how much resprays usually go for, so wasnt sure about the $1500-2000 price if it was good or bad, sounds like a top price now

In My Sig

$4-5k for a proper respray

yeh i agree 4-5k sounds bout right. thats what i got quoted for a full respray. If your willing to travel a bit Gal Smash Repairs on Garden Drive in Tullamarine are pretty good.

give him a buzz and speak to Dave, he'll sort you out.

I'm a spray painter and I'm only gonna say this one time and one time only! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

If you pay $1500 for a full respray, it'll probably look pretty good for the first 6months... until the paint starts to peel off on all the edges of the panels...

Also, for that price, don't ecpect that anything will be removed from the car... I mean, everything will be masked up and also, don't expect that ANY form of repairs will be done... I'm talking, no stone chips filled in, no car park din''ts fixed, etc etc..

Bsaically, if you love your car... being a tight arse now is gonna cost you more later.

DT Panels expensive????? hahaha, your mates are on drugs

$2K - $2.5k is dirt cheap for a respray and a $1-$1.5k i wouldn't even classify as a respray... more like just a "spray"

If you're fussy, realistically you gotta spend upwards of $4k, more like $5k+

If you want a killer job, Mr Gloss is in Moorabbin, don't expect much change from $8k though.

Spray painting is about a close a real world example of 'you get what you pay for' as you'll ever get.

good luck! (my car was resprayed at DT Panels)

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
