you can always prepare car ur self with primar and all and then just get a pro to respray the hole car end up being cheaper and you know for your self u will do good job prepareing it aint that hard to prepare it for a respray unless there is major pannel damage then u gotta have pannel beater fix that. but just only an idea

Yeah thats what im doing.. my mate knows a sprayer, so my mate is gonna show me how to prepare the car, so ill get a few different guys to help me with that, then give it to him to touch it up.. still would save alot of dosh.. 1 of my quarter panel's is fcked so im just gonna leave that and pay for that to get fixed.. everything else i should be able to strip the car and sand it down and prepare myself..

Yeah, and end up like my brother's car that looks like crap. It looked better with faded paint haha

Leave it to a professional, Vu is cheap :D

My mate thats helping me out did his car.. He said it wasnt the best job that he did because he had a buyer already for it so just wanted to get it looking good enuff.. It looked mint as he got 'Ferrari Red' color on his 32.. If it comes out anything like his did then i'll be happy :D

He ended up paying:

Paint - $350

Prep - $Free

Spray from a Panel Beater friend of a friend - $750

Havent decided it all yet.. Still might go with Vu.. but i dont mind doing it myself since i guess it gives me something to do.. Can always get the panel beater to touch it up a bit if it is fcked.. But my mate knows what he's doing so it shouldnt be too bad

yea dood dont listen to people who say that dont do it your self if u low on cash do what you want, i suggest get that quarter fixed and the pannel beater will prepare ithat quarter anyway for spray thats one part done, yea and if u mate knows how to prepare then tell him in full point on how to prepare its not that hard to, before you bring it in to the sprayer get him to look it over and you might do few finnish touches or he might do them if it wont cost ya, plus its your own car you should be able to do a good job preping

LMAO dix its goin 3 ways boyz! dezz, llama n me

I got my 33 painted by Vu n the boyz over a year ago and I still froff over it today! And mind u it wasnt easy to get it to that stage was it Vu :( Vu had a mammoth job spraying my car. Plus a so called "professional" prepped areas of my car up, only to have Vu rework his mess, so be very careful with DIY!! Now im back there in the next few weeks to get some wider front guards put on, sprayed and colour matched. Ive also got an S14 @ his shop getting custom work done and then a full respray/colour change, I have 100% faith in the DT crew!!

Seriously Vu, ill b comin round this week sometime........ Promise!! :P

PS: I dont care if my mumma says Vu is expensive, id still take my car down there for a quote(hinty hinty).

im in SE suburbs

hey mate i dont know if anyone has said this or wether your cars been painted. i didnt want to read all of your thread. :)

go to as many panel beaters as you can and ask them if they would paint your car if you did the prep work yourself; make all panels and kit straight.

sand it back, body filler, and primer. if you have time and the right tools this will save you shitloads of money, and you can get a better paint job with the money you save.

i fixed my damage and prepped it for paint. but ive had some experience in panel beating. im still waiting to get it painted. lol.

i have photos of my repair job, if you want to see what a home job looks like.

goodluck

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
