Could be a good thing, as all you do is find a registered inspection place and they do the paperwork

Like in vic, when I got a car registered at an isnpection station all they do is stamp the paper work, the inspection place checks compliance/legality, issues a roadworthy cert and all is good:D

Here's hoping its part of the govt cutbacks, so they dont need to employ a heap of people at regency. How good would that be.

Hippy in NSW if a car is over xx (cant remeber) years old, it must be inspected and a certificate of roadworthiness issued. The upside is that there is no way in hell that poor old regency would be able to handle these sorts of numbers of vehicles, therefore it would be outsourced - by by regency...hehehe

yeah but what about the outsourced company?? they could have pricks there .. although unlikely since it will be performanced based??  so they're likely to let shitbombs pass..

If they are pricks, no one will go there - reputations carry far and wide.

I found that most places in vic were actually really good (those places that were absolute sticklers, everyone knew about and no one went there), didnt worry too much if the car was a little low, or exhaust a bit noisey, minor bending of the rules as long as it wasnt bodgey back yard stuff.

In NSW authorised garages/workshops carry out the yearly rego inspections. There are literally hundreds of these authorised workshops, & they're all privately owned. In other words places like RPM Performance Centre, Tilbrook Auto Dyno & the like :) Some workshops will pass anything, whereas others are known to be very tough. It’s very simple, if you don't get the result you’re after (a pass) then you go elsewhere. Unless your car has major faults you WILL find someone to pass it! Been there done that :)

The authorised inspection workshops in the NSW system can lose their licence if they are linked to an unroadworthy car (ie it gets defected due to a major safety fault). This ensures that they don't just pass anything. It doesn’t stop many authorised workshops from doing extremely relaxed inspections. I’ve had places do a brake test on my car (the inspection requires a brake test print out) & they haven’t even started my car! The bottom line is… what the owner does to his/her car immediately after it leaves the workshop is out of the workshop’s control. So as long as the basics are ok you’ll be fine.

I very much doubt the SA Government has the funds to increase staff at Regency to cope will yearly inspections. Hence it will be contracted out in the same fashion as NSW & VIC etc. They is no way in hell one single workshop will be able to cope with all cars that fall within the inspection criteria.

The people that will have trouble with a yearly inspection system are those with shitbox cars rusting to pieces & blowing huge amounts of smoke & the like. These kinds of faults can’t be removed & re-installed if you get my drift – no pun intended :D

Steve,

In NSW all cars over 2yrs old are subject to yearly rego inspections. In my 15yrs in NSW I never had a car fail a yearly inspection. It sometimes took a second workshop but I still never failed :D

Dont raise your hopes up ppl!!!

Anything that the government touches or involves in will only make our lives more miserable and EXPENSIVE.

So instead of spending our good dough on mods and getting it done right, we will in the future

1. Waste our times at car inspection place....the line may be very long if everyone need to get it done.

2. pay fees every year or so...I bet GST still applies here :P

3. Expose our cars to a the public regularly......it would be a good place for car thieves to hang around don't you think :D:(

4. The cops still be able to defect your cars on the roads....Regency will still be Regency as usual!!!

I don't know what's so good about this except more revenue for the government.

It will only get from bad to worst :(

No my cup is quite full at the moment.

Life could not be any better so far :)

The politicians and politic in Australia are rediculous.

May be they should impose a rule and do a yearly IQ/health/usefulness check on the politicians and see how many get written off per year.

That I like to see :P

Thats the funny thing, you could be the biggest fark head in the world and get voted in to politics, no intelligence/education required, just a personallity that people will vote for!

Scary stuff, but I still prefer to look on the upside to the rego inspection things, rather than focus on the bad...lol

Bottom line? which would you prefer:

all those shit boxes that drive around on the street, potential accidents waiting to plow into your car, or worse still you or your family left in peace while the drivers of nice cars get defected all the time for bullshit like 'I think your car is not legal ride height, so you better get down to regency'

OR

those shitboxes removed from the street AND you get to have your vehicle inspected by the workshop that you have been forking out your hard earned mod dollars (like in Vic)

Why not ask Miss Nismo who she would have preferred to have the vehicle inspected by when she changed the rego to SA in her R32, or one of the many guys who were defected with imports?

and lastly,

would you bitch if as you were driving home from getting defected, you pulled up at the lights next to some rust bucket spewing smoke and bouncing all over the place because the suspension is so rooted, yet they drive around all day evey day with out a care in the world?

All I am saying is, look at the big picture. Bottom line, I would be happy to pay a few dollars to have my car inspected if I knew that dangerous pieces of junk were being removed. With any luck their will be better spinoffs (easier vehicle inspections for rego transfer/defect) as well.

Either way, neither you nor I will change it, but I think it aint all bad, you choose to think it is. I hope your wrong:p

    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching
    • Quite right, if you make it to that pension you deserve every cent
    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
    • That's all good, I thought I was missing some interesting feature! Maybe @PranK can double check if that is something that is meant to be operating or not.
