R338OY
My mechanic told me he tried to patch a leak in my down pipe. I think it's still leaking. Will this have a bad effect of the turbo? My turbo isn't going as hard and i'm throwing up whether the exhaust is weakening boost or if the turbo is just dying. Thoughts? GeeTR
Any exhaust restriction after your turbo turbine is considered bad for power... so really you should have gained some power from your leak LOL. In reality, if the leak was big enough, i guess it could cause adverse turbulence at the leak, having a follow-on effect on total flow. R338OY
Well i figured a leak wouldn't cause a big drop in boost, but several people have told me (including a tuner) exhaust leaks worsen performance. Not really something to fuss about? I thought of replacing the exhaust but if it's just a rooted turbo then maybe i need to go turbo shopping. Boost is pretty crap unless i boot it. Especially from lower rpm's it's like an NA. If i change at 2500/3000rpm i sometimes can't even hear blow-off Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/211102-exhaust/#findComment-3733447 Share on other sites
s13_Skyline_inside
it may not be the exaust thats leaking, if the power has dropped off id be looking more toward the turbo gasket's, like the ones before the turbo Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/211102-exhaust/#findComment-3733856 Share on other sites
GeeTR
... several people have told me (including a tuner) exhaust leaks worsen performance I would have thought they meant a zhaust leak before the turbo, not after it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/211102-exhaust/#findComment-3734137 Share on other sites
R338OY
it may not be the exaust thats leaking, if the power has dropped off id be looking more toward the turbo gasket's, like the ones before the turbo My exhaust manifold was repaired a few months ago, turbo came off and several gaskets were replaced. Power wise it's not bad. 189rwkw @ 10psi is what i expected with my mods. But response down low is bad (sounds like an NA city driving) and higher up can't really hear air being compressed. I would have thought they meant a zhaust leak before the turbo, not after it Well i told everyone it was turbo-back leaking, so that's what they were referring to. So should i look at doing the exhaust or do i need to get on Nengun and check out their Turbo platter?
