Cam Gears

Hi guy have a r33 gtst and is fairly stock except for a pod boost controler set at 9psiand a catback exhaust. Thinking of getting a set a cam gears in and ex. Would it make a difference in power or drivability for a near stock car?

I think it's been discussed a fair bit. Doubt it will do much for your setup.

yes, it would make it worse.

Find out what VCT actually does before you decide to remove it.

also u only need 1, the intake cam.

i stand corrected....exhaust one...

Also you can only do one, the EXHAUST cam.

The VVT is on the inlet cam

point taken cam gears useless for this setup. mate just got back to me has a na supra got cam gears put on and mechanic told him made no difference in power.

Changing the cam overlap ALWAYS make a difference, on every engine I have tuned anyway. You can make;

1. A higher maximum power at the same rpm

2. A lower maximum power at the same rpm

3. The same maximum power at higher rpm

4. The same maximum power at lower rpm

5. A higher maximum power at higher rpm

6. A lower maximum power at higher rpm

7. A higgher average power in the rpm range you use

8. A combination of the above

What I use an adjustable exhaust camshaft pulley on an RB25DET for is #7. It brings on more boost earlier and facilitates more ignition advance, which also helps.

so by just changing the ex cam gear it wont alter the VCT?
