Hey guys

I've recently fallen in love with the 350gt sedan (current XR6turbo owner) and took one with 30,000kms for a drive the other day which was great.

Like most Japanese cars, there were little buttons and gadgets everywhere... But I want to know what little extra's does this car have that you find useful...

Ie... I've heard the car has auto headlights. Is this correct? What else?

Also, how much am I looking at to intergrate my IPOD with the BOSE stereo? The car i'm looking at doesn't have the optional screen, so i'm only worried about audio.

Cheers,

Dave

Most options varies from one car to another. Some cars have the reversing camera that pops up the TV on premium models to give you a rear view of the car, some has even the rare front bumper camera to give you fish eye look on both side of the front bumpers - useful to get out of a small alley with buildings built up to the streetfront. Some has an auto dipping mirrors when you put the car into reverse, some sedans have an radar (active) cruise control that will adjust vehicle speed if it detects some other car cutting you off in front of you or getting too close, auto headlights are common, and the list just keeps going on.

If you are in QLD then a guy called Chris Roger can do the Ipod integration with the bose stereo. If not then might be a 'wish you luck' trip to a local audio installer to get it done right. Best to find the best in the business or previous experience/exposure with V35, don't shop by price as you don't want to stuff up the electricals in these cars, they're very tricky and can get very expensive if they get it wrong. Car has CAN (Controlled Area Network) that would complicate things up and cutting wires simply don't work in this car.

if you can find a series 2 (late 2004 onwards) that would be the best.

Updated interior and aluminium center console

nicer looking shifter with the leather boot

bose CD/MD as opposed to CD/tape

Intelligent Key (keyless ignition)

Auto headlights

full leather interior (rare)

reversing and front cameras

5 spd auto (tiptronic)

updated rear tail lights and bootlid

updated front bar

sunroof (if ur lucky)

Thats about all I can think of now..good luck in ur search!

The Ipod intergration is quite easy with the inbuilt TV. Not sure how to do it if you don't have the TV. Cost with the TV to get the ipod working varies from $14 for a dIY job from raw materials to about $90 as DIY with the connector form Chris Rogers and extension lead for the RCA plug. I went one step further and got from the US a lead that plugs into the bottom of the ipod and goes to RCA plugs. Has the benifits of built in output level and charges the ipod. (that is an extra $80 for one with video output). Chris offers some even better set up but price will be higher.

Auto lights are great, turn on parkers or full lighs as light fades. Turn off with ignition.

The problem of the Jap language on the screen will be over come in the next few months with a conversion due to be available around June for everything but the GPS menu's. Cost is not confirmed but estimated around $200.

Is this conversion software gonna be "beta tested" to make sure that it doesn't actually kill the car system??

They are already running the conversion in Russia and I have had my screens partially converted with a demo version with no problem. I don't believe that it is actually changing the funcionality of any of the software, just replacing the japanese words with english within the program.

I can confirm this if you like but I as I said this has been done for some time in Russia with no problems so would not anticipate any here.

Cheers

Andy

I went to jspec and look at a 2003 and 2006 model but I cannot spot the different. can you tell me what it is?

Sorry my mistake...I think the bootlid and tail lights were not series specific but more year model specific...2001-2002 and the 2003+ models had different bootlid and tail lights...so you were right..if u looked at a 2003 and a 2006, they would have been identical from behind...but S2 only started in late 04 models.

the 02 models had the center thingo in the middle of the bootlid...the 03+ ones are smooth and had different design tail lights...does not neccesarrily mean its a Series 2.

    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching
    • Quite right, if you make it to that pension you deserve every cent
    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
    • That's all good, I thought I was missing some interesting feature! Maybe @PranK can double check if that is something that is meant to be operating or not.
