Ok I know this question may have been asked before but I need to confirm a few things.

Can I change my r31 rb20det red top coil packs with r32 or r33 items.

Is it just a matter of changing the loom with the coil packs or will I have igniter problems.

Is it easier to go from r31 into r32 set up.(coils plus loom plus igniter) or will I then have ecu wiring problems.

I am after plug and play if possible rather than re-wiring a heap of crap.

I beleive even if I go to splifire I will have to change the loom anyway which I think comes in the kit.

Its no use chasing down second hand red top coil packs as all are over 20 years old and unreliable.

If I can change the set up to r32 or r33 items at least i can find some half that age and maybe more reliable.

Unplug the redtop packs, pull them out, put the 32 pack in, plug them in, easy. AFAIK, it's the same with 33 and 34 ones as well, as my mate has RB26DETT ones in his worked CA18DET as he kept popping CA ones.

i'm also not sure about the r33 S2 & r34 coil packs as they have the ignitor as a part of the pack... don't know how if that would work with the red top ignitor.

i'm not 100% on this one either but there may also be a difference between the early red top coil packs and the ECCS version. look in the tech section at www.r31skylineclub.com to get a 100% correct answer.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
