Hey guys, mate and I that both own 32s running RB20DETs are in the dilemma of deciding where we'd like out of our cars power wise. Neither of us have been in an RB20 with anything other than the standard turbo so we're wondering if there are any friendly member with a powerful 20 who wouldn't mind taking us for a bit of a spin so we can get an idea of what we can expect. Will shout a beer!

Well we more wanna get an idea of what to expect of X amount. We haven't really set a budget yet and don't really know how much power we'd like because we're not really sure how much we'd like. We've both done full exhausts, fmic and the basics and are now looking at turbo, injectors, AFM and tune. I've already got a Power FC so we just wanna get an idea of what we'd like. Anyone mind sheading some light?

So what are your choices? Power or new car? For turbo, injectors, AFM and tune, youd be looking at around 4000, thats the minimum. Theres alot of extra unexpected costs as well, as im sure alot of other members will vouch for|!

hey mate, atm iv got a

vg30 turbo- $300 and all the usual..eg fmic, fuel pump, bleeder valve, and a re-map and also an external gate (not nessisary but sounds damn good lol) and iv got 215kw at the treads on 15psi, injectors are at max flow and yu shouldnt realy run over 14psi with vg/r33/standard turb obviously, so i wouldnt reccomend it but iv had this 4 over a year now and its all good! our customers cars we usualy run 14psi max in top end and get between 180 to 200 kw. cheep!

biulding a 3L now!

ive got just a bit over 200 killerwasps @ 14psi with a turbo from an rb25, standard piping to a fmic (standard piping to reduce lag) 3" turbo back zorst, gtr fuel pump, bleeder valve and a remap. got other toys too like coilies strut braces and a 2-way but they have little to do with power.. the only other things that i will do to this car will be stuff to keep it happy (like a big ass oil cooler, moar efficient radiator and a sexy oil catch can)

i want MOAR POWAAHHH, but i think that will end with me getting a new car

The VG30 turbo sucks. Its nothing more than an rb20det cartridge with slightly larger comp and turbine housings.

The rb25det turbo on the other hand has a similar sized exhaust housing but both a larger compressor and comp cover.

Definitely the rb25det turbo over the vg30det turbo.

Average power FTW.. It accelerates you quicker to that 200killawasps of where you only spend 1/10th of a second anyway. :P

Unless the car is a track hack I wouldn't bother spending money on the rb20. Drop a rb25det in to it and make 2x the power with more off boost acceleration, more mid range, considerably faster spool and just so much nicer to drive.

Or you could go the rb30det and spool a larger 525hp rated turbo the same as an rb25det spools its stock turbo. ;)

As for how much power... 200kw is quite lazy. 250rwkw+ is repeatedly 'fun' in a r32 gtst lightweight.

250rwkw as a streeter with an rb20 will no doubt have you loosing your license as it will require you to ring its neck to 'feel' fast.

RB25DET or greater. :P

We'd def like to consider the 25 / 30 option but legalities would make that less feisable and we don't really want to be driving round cars that insurance would void (especially me as the 32 is my daily).

Go the RB25det then.

Regardless; suspension, highflow turbo, boost controller, remapped or aftermarket ecu are all insurance voiders if they were to get nit picky. :P

When listing mods with an insurance company and they say yeah thats fine.. The fine print also states it must be legal.

I see your logic. We'd still like to go for a small drive in something (be it 20, 25 or 30) to get an idea. :P

if you decide to stay with an RB20 you're best bang for buck would be the 2530. fast spool, reliable power, low mounted, fits factory manifold and dump. probably the best turbo built for the RB20.

have a read of the RB20 upgrade thread as it may give you a heads up on what parts and costs are involved in getting to the power figure you want.

ive gone a lil stupid on my rb20. ive spent over 10k on parts from october last year until now on a stock internal motor. you really need to decide how much you want to spend then you can decide how much power/driveability you want to achieve.

+1 for the 2530

once ive finished wiring the loom for my mates 300rwkw R31 with a 20 in it im sure he wont mind me taking you guys for a drive! hehe.

Sounds good, that's what we're after.

give me some cash an your rb20 and i'll think about giving you my 255rwkw RB30DET. (All the works done, haha!)

Sounds exciting, how much are you asking?

I'd probably be looking to budget aroud 2 -3k depending which turbo ect but I will also be looking into the budget options like 25 turbo and saving my cash for another car or RB30 conversion.

I'm pretty sure my mate is willing to spend more than I am so I gues 3 - 5k maybe.

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
