GeeTR....yeh I tried to post up the ".amr" file but it said that I do not have permission to post that file format. I'll see what I can do - I'll try to get some better sound as this batch didnt come out too well on the mobile.

If none of you guys have come across that sound with your GTR's then it may quite possibly the oldish foam of my pod filters making that sound when boost travels back out through them. I'm yet to drive around the block with out them.

All you guys who replied....you all actually drive GTR's, right? I've been through some threads on here where idiots who drive their mummy's commodore put their two cents worth into topics - oh man, they know SOO SOO SOO much about those "4-cylinder" RB26's...oh yes they do!!! They should be shot! LOL. .....the threads end up turning into arguments then. Quite amusing to read - but also quite painful when you're looking for info.

....anyway, just wondering if any of you guys have a idea around why my GTR doesn't flutter even with NO BLOW OFF VALVES. If you guys could perhaps explain that to me that could help me solve my other *noise* problem.

Tom

All you guys who replied....you all actually drive GTR's, right?

I'm a proud hippy vegan hitchhiker bum, but i once slept under a HPI magazine, featuring a Daihatsu GTR with RC26DETT... so i definitely know what your talking bout brother.

No idea why your setup flutters under partial throttle, but not with your BOV's sealed up... but then your mechanic suggested you have a external gate hooked up... so anything could be possible :D

Zip and post, or just change the file extension.

it's normal. with the pods on sometimes RB26s will make a sort of bark/cough noise when you back off/change gear. I think it's the combo of the blitz valves and the pods. just part of the symphony of noises you get from a twin turbo 26.

Ah finally! Beer Baron....someone who actually knows about the sound! Yes, it sounds like a funny bark or very off / broken blow off valve! So we're partially on the same page there but unfortunately it has nothing to do with the valves as I have taken them off completely and it still makes the sound! Pretty crazy! ...but it does rule out the bov's.

I've had another idea at what i could be though....it may actually be air rushing past the plumb back / recirc pipe that is still attached. It is punged up at the BOV end.

I'm thinking of when you blow over the top of a tallie or something and it makes that trumpet sound. I think that could be happening with the plumb back pipe where it's attached to the turbo inake pipe behind the afm.

Yep, go the symphony lol...just not this 1 sound haha i dont like it sorta...i swear, i like all the other sounds lolz!!

Tom

Fly12n, finally some more people who know the sound hehe! Took a while lol!

OK, well if it's all normal than that's ok I guess ;-)

Do you know where the noise is generated from? Is this what "flutter" (or, oi-uleh-fully-sic-flooder-maate) sounds like with two turbo's? If you think about it you couldn't really get that chuff-chuff-chuff-chuff-chuff sound with two turbos...the two turbos would put out something totally different???

I'm thinking that this may be it because, when I run no bov's it still makes that sound.....that's BOOH sound (lmao)

Tom

LOL at the omguleh's!!! Hehe...um yeh I've been thinking about that. There's a fair few threads on big single conversions on here. There's a bit to it with the GTR's and I may have to save up just a little bit lol! About 6 to 7 g's

But yeh I'm not gonna ask about it in this topic...there's already sh*tload's of threads on it by Beer Baron and the likes - actually the one by him is quite an extensive thread.

seriously the noise is normal stop being a f**king pedantic flamin mongrel

Whats with the anger, its a legitimate question...? :)

Anyway, twin turbo upgrade FTW, there's even a group buy on twin's for just over 2K + installation....

Gareth, ah dude doesnt worry me. It's always hard trying to suss stuff like that out. It's no use to take the thread any further without posting up a high quality audio recording - so I'm gonna leave it just for now. People I've shown so far here where I live are stumped by the sound - even those who know quite a lot about GTR's and work with them everyday.

I'll try to get something on the weekend - perhaps I can email it instead to the highest bidders lol.

But yeh as far as the turbo upgrade goes...hehe, mine's all stock...it doesnt even have an exhaust. But, I bombed my old GTST out so far....I went to court for it and everything. Hence my new GTR has been left pretty stock.

there was no anger in my post dude. he asked a legitimate question and got severl legitimate answers mine was one of them.

and tom u should go sick on the gtr bro, i sometimes wish i still had mine. but when i get my s15 soon it will all be forgotten about lol

It's ok guys...she's all cool.

S15 - nice choice man! There's a silver one getting around where I work - goes hard and sounds to match!!! Very sexy!

Yep, I'll go sic on it once more I reckon - I mean why not, gotta have some fun with these last barrels of fuel hey? Won't be able to afford it when it starts to run dry - and I don't think I'll be converting the GTR over to hydrogen!!

I have my first track outing very soon - it should be fun! See how the stock GTR goes against the other boys ;-) It will probably make me wanna do some work on it too hehe

Tom

Julz, for sure man - she'll be fresh as. Just going down for a mess around and see what I make of it. First time mate. I downloaded my asaa license form today so in the next month or so I hope to go for some laps....wed or sat arvo sprints is the event.

It should be a good day out...so far I've just been out in the gokarts (big carts) but not with a car. The GTR is just a bit gocart so yeh - should be great fun provided I don't spin out into the wall ass first!

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
