CHO50N
Hi Guys, Got a Blue V35 premium and am thinking about painting it. So far i have removed the front number plate mould and filled all holes, so it looks like the US version. All badges have been removed to fit Infiniti badges. I have the clear front indicators, Infiniti scuff plates and a few other bits. This is the problem: Do I simply re-spray the front bar back to original and forgett about it leaving the car looking nice tidy and stock or do I re-spray the car totally? I am really thinking of doing a colour fade on it from the standard blue on the top (lets me leave roof, bonnet and bootlid standard) down to a dark blue around the base. Much like the Queen St BMW's and Mercedes. I woudl still clear over the whole car making it look fresh and remove all windows etc to get a top job with no edges. This is just something different as there are begining to be alot of V35's around and I want to make it different. Car is getting 20 or 22inch wheels and already has a trust exhaust. any feedback would be good......... Thanks guys. WazR32GTSt
my advice = the cost of a respray is never justified if there's nothing wrong with you paint if you have been in an accident or been keyed then fair enough but if you want to change your front bumper, just spray that and leave the rest want a different colour car? sell yours and buy the colour you want.. my 2c Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/220356-anyone-done-a-re-spray-yet/#findComment-3885921 Share on other sites
CHO50N
Depends what you paying for the respray? the painter is a good friend of mine so its not really that bigger deal. Unique
I am going to get flamed for this I am sure from the "do what you want with your car" crowd, but what you have mentioned above made me cringe. I have had quite a few cars in my time, many of them modified, so can understand to some extent, but I am of the thought that there are horses for courses (different modifications for different vehicles). I understand that everybody purchases a car for different reasons, however I do not feel this car is from the show or boy racer scene. In my book it is a luxury sports coupe, so adding wild paint, crazy unusable wheels and making it as loud as possible, detracts from the image. It is certainly not a boring looking car, the amount of 20, 30, 40, 50 even 60 year olds who have approached and said nice words about the car in my time of ownership is testimate to that. Isn't it different enough as it is? It commands respect FAR greater than the current market price. Maybe a bit more than I got in the Lexus sc430 and thats a hell of a lot more $$. Again something I am going to get absolutely flamed for, but as much as I love skylines, I HATE the current image (and I feel a contributing factor was the wild paint, huge wheels and loud as possible exhaust). I am at a point where I love the car, it met all my needs/wants that I had, however the skyline name (in non GTR) was so badly tarnished that I didn't and still do not wish to be closely associated with it. It is for this very reason my car is completely badged as an Infiniti. CHO50N
You raise a very good point but one question, How old are you? I myself am only 21. In my family we already have 3 V35's. My mum has a 03 premium with sunroof in red and uncles has a 05 premium also. Yes these cars are great value for money but in stock form they do lack a little in the looks department. Yes both my uncle and mum are very happy with their vehicles and love them to bits but i think it just needs a little more. The paint that would be going on the car isnot wild and starts with a standard colour fading to a darker blue probably from wheel arches down. The car will still look classy and not typical boy racer. The exhaust I have is a Trust and still keeps dual pipes and is not really that loud at all. Is this a case of different ages wanting different things from the same car? I to have all Infiniti parts already from the US including a few interior bits as well not just badging. gadget1382
Personally I would keep it standard colour. But if going to fade it, do it so it looks like it was meant to be done. If you mask a word or logo into the darker tone (that way it's not in the darker tone) it wouldnt be overly rice and if it were skyline / infinity / nissan etc it could really set it off if de-badged. How light is the car paint atm? If a darkish blue you could even afford to paint the lower part black and fade that up. Fading is not easy by any means and your friend will need to be very skilled! CHO50N
Mate the paint side is not a problem he has painted heaps of show cars and specialises in 2 tone / Graphics / fading etc etc. He has sprayed. 3KUOUT, 4PERVS, RYTONQ, 2 SUS. As i said paint side is easy. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/220356-anyone-done-a-re-spray-yet/#findComment-3886778 Share on other sites
NISMO
Just do it, It's only paint :-) If your mates doing then just spray it back if you're not happy. Seriously, it sounds quite subtle and there are some crazy painted G35's in the US that look great. Personally i don't think the car is that luxurious looking. Yes it has all the features, but the leather/alcantara for example to me is more sporty than luxury. The Anniv edition with the full leather is a different story and that definately looks Merc/BMW league. Any pics of what you had in mind? G7
If you dont put respectable rims on it- then it will look crap regardless how the paint is I rekon. Volk GTS in black - with the chrome dish 20 x 10.5 would be quite tasteful. But your up for 5K with tyres. If you put 22's in chrome- Though Ive seen a few magazines where they do that alot to 350's in Japan. Still I dont think Rays/Volk make 22's off the shelf yet. In terms of the blending of the shades- no way! You will put the social status of this super sports cruiser into the relm of FULLY SICK WRX man! then again your only 21- you dont know what good taste is yet.
