Hi Guys

I've upgraded my R33 to an R34. I have the stock tv LCD screen on top of the dash in the R34. The screen works fine, but I don't like the stock audio setup.

Basically, I want to remove the stock radio and buy a single DVD/DivX/mp3/CD deck and run video's off the the factory LCD screen. I don't want to run an iPod setup. Also, I was hoping to hook the new deck directly to the stock screen. I don't want to use the head-phone jack inputs on the front.

I understand that the stock screen is running on a NTSC signal, so I would probably upgrade the screen to a PAL one that fits into the stock mechanism as I would like for it to remain hidden and keep the car as original looking as possible.

Has anybody done something like this already? Can somebody recommend something to me?

Nick

I have the pop un screen in my 34 too. I have seen other 34s on the forum with aftermarket head units but they don't have the screen. I have been to JB HI-FI and Straithfield and they panic when they screen. No body wanted to touch it. Apparently the screen and the CD/Casset player are all integrated togeather and it is a costly exercise to rewire the whole set. On top of that they have to create a new face for the din because thay dont have any that fit in the 34s V shape console.

Id be interested to know if anybody with a screen has been able to change their sound system besides the speaker set up?

good luck :P

screen is usable- if it works properly then replace the radio with a DVD unit that has NTSC output and you are set (sort of). find someone that understands integration in your are (I do this but I'm in brissy.) done. its not really a DIY job unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing.

i took mine off and change it to 5 inch clarion screen, rewire the whole of inside so still can go up and down with a switch without the gps thing,

working pretty good

Hmmm sounds interesting. I like the idea of using a switch. Have u got any pics of your setup, with the switch? Also, any more details about the wiring to get the mechanism to go up and down?

How much do you think is a reasonable price to get this job done?

Hi Chris

I was wondering if I'd be able to get your mobile number to give you a buzz to discuss, if possible. I would call you during the day only 9-5. I've rad a few articles and you seem like the go to guy for advice. I would appreciate it very much.

can you please recommend someone who could do this job for my R34? I think there's something wrong with the pop-up mechanism so it stay's jammed sometimes. so that has to be fixed too, and then replaced with a really good audio and a LCD screen

I too am looking at replacing the standard radio/cassette player from my R34 .. I have the factory lcd screen/cd player above the aircon too. Is there a simple unit out there that can replace the factory cassette/radio player that would work in conjunction with the factory cdplayer/lcd ?

I'd like to be able to play mp3 cds (or dvds even better ..more storage) but also use the cdplayer joystick+lcd as with the factory unit. Any drop-in units out there that are comptible?

in short - yes. anything will work with it BUT you need to have a AUX in on the rear of it.from there you need to be able to rework the DIN lead to spit the audio out.

if I get time I'll make a patch lead for it and off it up for sale.

how do you guys want it - DIN-> male RCA or DIN ->3.5mm jack?

yes. the radio (in your case.) only plays sound. so if you buy one that has AUX in on the rear of it then no issue. buy a unit that has NTSC video out and then we can do a some cool stuff..

Im looking to buy a R34 with this screen at the moment.....

Isn't there an AV input somewhere in the R34 for the LCD Screen.....?? the Nissan Stagea has AV inputs on the Factory TV unit/receiver (which doesnt work in Aus).

My Stagea has this factory LCD Screen (as many of them do), all I had to do was buy a single din DiVX/MP3 Player that can send a NTSC video signal (I bought a JVC unit), wired all the speakers to the new unit as per normal, and ran the AV Video line from the JVC Unit to an AV input where the facotry TV Unit/Receiver, set the screen to AV2 (which you only have to do once) and **Vwalla!!**

If I play MP3's the list of songs, artist info, etc. is always displayed on the screen, put a movie on - plays instantly through the screen.....

no fancy electronics required...... couldn't something like this be done on the R34???

    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
