Hi guys,

I have read nuffsaid's thread earlier that he was tossing between the FK452 and i have heard my side of story and other brands. you know how the tyre shops work these days?

Any ways i am looking at a pair or 265/35/18s which will go on my gtst and i have 400rwkw+ atm and was wondering if this tyre will grip+last me for at least a year ( not saying im a thrasher , just a sensible but on time which rarely happens giving driver) ?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

N1GTR, ta for that but wat i ment for Grip+last was i know that i can get some cheapy tires for lasting longer and i also did some reasearch on the riterack.com about other semi slick tyres and know that one will last more than other, wat i wanted to find out is to see if this will make me happy for a little while or not.

any ways any one else have similar power figurand using this type of tyre?

No it won't grip especially with a set of 18's. :P

Consider a set of R888's or if on a bit of a budget toyo's new R1R.

Might be worth while tracking down spoolimports to see what he runs with his 380rwkw rb30det as I do remember he made mention he has his hooking up pretty much from first to fourth.

i will be having same issues very soon except around the 450rwkw range of things. ill be happy if i can get the power down rolling in second but i know for a fact its gonna be hard to get it from a standing start in first but owell i gets thats the idea of a GTR lol

Babak I found GT Radial - Champirio good value for money, I found It difficult to drop the clutch and spin the wheels with quarter throttle maybe a little more, I have no idea wtf is good at 400rwkw but that was at 200rwkw.

They cost $500 a Pair(can get them cheaper)

The Falkens are crap, Not sure on your exact model but honestly they dont grip. Best tyre I ever had was Advan DNA but not cheap.

Clearly you don't know about that exact model if you think they don't grip. For a "streetable" tyre, Falken RT's stick like shit to carpet. They're not the best S-Comp ever made, but for the price and availability they're hard to beat.

The problem with Falken's reputation is that every tosser associates the Ziex 326s with them, which are probably the most rubbish tyre ever to have been made. Tempe tends to throw them in with their wheel + tyre packages, so chromied-up ricers drive on them and think they're all that Falken make.

The Falken FK452s came second in Motor's 2008 Tyre Test, and are a great touring tyre.

I've used a couple of street tyres on my current car (Bridgestone RE040, Bridgestone RE-01, Dunlop DZ-101) and by far my two favourites have been the discontinued Falken RT215s for outright grip, and the Falken FK452s for all-round performance. If I can't afford Bridgestone RE-01Rs when I wear out the FK452s I'm currently using, I will get RT615s.

How many k's do you do? Hillclimb semi slicks can last you decades if you never drive on them.

I got about 15,000km out of my RT215s, but I'm only making around 180rwkW. That said, I did give them a severe workout on quite a few roads so they saw a fair amount of hard use. I only get 20,000km out of a set of RE040s so its not that much different.

Cubes has suggested some R-Comps. You'll be lucky to get 10,000km out of a set of them, and if you daily drive the car the tyre roar will drive you insane. I've daily driven on R-Comps in the past, and I got headaches from the noise.

champiros are great if you don't mind ripping tread blocks off them. Mine started tearing on the dyno when i was making around 270rwkw.

I currently have rt215's on the back and i can't complain. My car doesn't really get driven so i can't really comment on wear, I did a track day on them a while back and have done a couple of wet sessions since and they seem to have plenty of life left in them with maybe 5000km and, as a bonus, they haven't fallen apart yet and only cost me $180 each for 235/45-17's.

I honestly think you will struggle to maintain traction no matter what tyre you choose.

Thanks so much guys for ur infos, yeah that the thing. lol i have even thought of getting Works Emothins and downgrade to 17in and get wider tyres. like 17x9in +28R and +38F. so wors come to wors ill get a new pair of NEXEN N3000 again coz they did me a good job down the 1/4 running a 12.4 @ 128mph. considering i was only using 12 psi that day and had only 300rwkw. the 60' was 2.3sec from the top of my head.

Any ways ill see how i go but once again thanks heaps guys.

RA1s are an R-Comp. RT615s are an S-Comp. The former will grip harder, but last a lot less mileage.

What kind of range did you get out of the RA1s?

Nah not alot of range, maybe 10-15000 before they started to show signs of wear and loose grip.

This is the price you pay for grip

I run the RT615's as a daily tire, on my 2nd set... they grip damn well with 190rwkw but i have NFI if they will hold 400rwkw... my guess would be anything less than a full slick will have you wheel spinning!

I like them because of the stiff sidewall, it makes it much nicer/predictable to corner but they aren't the best for straight line stuff... good in the wet, very quiet and pretty hard wearing compared to full semi comps

if you have spent the money to make the power you may as well spend some more to put it to the ground... no point cheaping out for tires now... I would get a set off the R888's as Cubes suggested

NickR33, thanks dude for that. YES i now know with this much power i would not get traction at all.. any ways guys thanks again for ur info's.

I just go for normal tyres fow now and have my Mickeis for drag days. I am going to get the KUMO KU31s as they are bit above average and for good price for a pair.

I got about 17,000km out of my RT215s. They still had a little bit of tread on them, but they were on the indicators, and that mileage includes a trip to Melbourne where I was cruising for 900km each way, and it rained on the way there and on the way back.

If you can get that much mileage out of RA1s, maybe I should consider them for street tyres. I think the UTQG for the RA-1s is 40-100 though (depending on testing methodology), whereas the RT615s are 200. Maybe I just drive mine too hard.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
