Hi Fellas and Femmes,

This is my first post on this forum and all I seek is the knowledge of who does the right deal for insurance in this great state. I am just about to take the dip and purchase an R34 GTT so I'm gonna need something to keep me covered. I'm an OTH (over the hill - over 30) convert to Skylines - been a Vtec man for quite a while now and it just feels the right time to do it. I have a lifetime rating 1 at present and live in area of relatively little car theft. Has anyone got any ideas on who to use.

Cheers

Try Famous Car Insurace (theres a thread in general discussion, i think its a "sticky" thread)

They sponsor the NSW branch of the club.

For my R31 non turbo thats worth 7k MAXIMUM the best quote I can get is 1200 with about 1k excess. Being old has its benefits!

Welcome to the fray Muz.

Yep $882.oo was full Comprehensive including a windscreen a year. Is the 97 200 SX imported or a locally (Nissan) sold car. Which makes me think ...... Has anyone ever tried to explain to an insurance company that a huge percentage of cars available in Oz are actually fully imported and why should there be a premium placed on Skylines or do Supras' and other suffer the same closed mind mentality. Just wondering...

I'm rating 1 & 27yo but gf is rating 2 & 24yo. IMO Suncorp are thieves they charge you more if you want to pay monthly something CGU do not, plus because its thru Wesfarmers Dalgety, Wesfarmers pay my insurance for me then invoice me for it so i Can't forget to pay it, plus the extra 30days you get to pay for it!

These people genuinely show you they want your business by actually looking after you.

I'm with Suncorp, which was one of about 3 I could find that would touch an inport with mods. Premium is sub $700 (can't remember the exact figure) for full comp, and have mags, exhaust, suspension and stereo all listed on the policy. No one else came close to that for rating 1 over 25 when I was looking in late Jan this year.

That's very interesting. I immediately jumped on the phone to Suncorp and the very best they will do for me on an R34GTT is $1380.00. I am well on the wrong side of 30 (better make that 40), no accidents in the last 20 years, one claim in my total driving history (no fault), no speeding offences in the last 10 years and no mods on the car (yet). So your sub $700 is an extremely good price. Good luck with them.

Muz, who did you go with? I tried quotes for an R34GTT about 3months ago. Couldn't get anywhere near the $700 that these guys talk about. Approx $1300 was about what I got quoted. ?Unfortunately I didn't end up with the car!!!! I'll be looking for an R34 again in a few months!

Pearman,

I just signed up with Shannons for $803.65 which was the very best I could get. No mods as yet but they tell me if I mod it with an exhaust system and FMIC it jump to over $1000.00 so I would really like to know who these guys are talking to at Suncorp so I can get in on the action.

I am with Suncorp, they were the cheapest I could find and I am up near the $1300 per year with no mods listed on the policy yet. When I re-register the mini it will be going with shannons and then I can insure the skyline with them. Last time I spoke with them they only did older cars but said they would do another newer car if you had an older car insured with them already. Have they changed their policy since I spoke with them last?

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
