ey guys need some help on wat do, im stuck.

my next thing on my 33 is to get my exaust done, ive been quoted 1050 dollars for a 3" stainless turbo back exaust? wat does everyone reckon, good price? should i worry about stainless or jst go mild steel? or does any one have ant bolt on kits that i could buy or get from somewhere???

also for my FMIC wat should i do, found a cooling pro kit that connects straight up to the stock intercooler pipes. i dunno wat i wanna do, how easy is it to fit these after market FMIC in the stock front bar of a r33 series 2. Any one have any hints or tips for installing them.

Thanks For the help guys

Adam

Id have a look through the trader section for exhuasts, there are quite a few who supply a wide range of exhausts. As for the cooler, i just fitted my type 2 cooling pro kit. Jenkies had to make custom brackets for it, but other than that, no problems at all!

Sounds like a good price, but does it include a high flow cat? Stainless muffler or resonator? Do you know exactly what it is going to sound like? And what volume it is going to be? If the price difference isn't massive I would go stainless every time, as it will last a lot longer. If you want to be prudent, get them to change over your turbo exhaust housing studs while they do the job - can save you heartache down the track.

I have the cheap-ass JustJap intercooler and it works great. Not sure if it is cooling pro or not. If the one you are looking at hooks up to stock pipes then I would assume not. The big problem with a cooler that joins up to stock pipes, it that it presumably has a long pipe running the length under the intercooler back the the stock pipes - these can hang below the level of your bumper bar. If the one you are looking at doesn't have that pipe, then they are bugger to install - you have to cut a hole in your engine bay wall for the return pipe, lose your air snorkel, and trim your clutch fan blades.

Either way you are almost certainly going to have to trim your reo bar, and will definitely have to trim the inside of your bumper bar, to fit the cooler in. These are not difficult jobs, but not for the faint-hearted either. If you are not pretty strongly mechanically inclined, then I would pay someone to fit it. A pile of SAU people had a go at installing a members intercooler one afternoon recently, and from memory didn't actually complete the project within a day :D

yeah like nightcrawler said! i think i was quoted just under 2k somewhere for exhaust, it included a cat, resonator and a muffler! but it was gonna be abit loud, i think the last r33 they tested was like 96-97 db with the same exhaust! i wanted it quiet so i shopped around and pick up a jazma 3" cat back for cheap as chips! got a 3" xforce front/dump real cheap as well! i then picked up a 3" high flow cat from an r34 for like 50 bucks! but i ended up decating my own cat but all up i spent around $500 on my exhaust system! just shop around if you don't wanna pay that sort of price

as for the fmic! i have never run into one which just fits directly without any modifications! i always ended up bending pipes and adding some on

cheers for all the reply guys

as for the quote it was for a 3" stainless dump pipe, that has the 2 seperate pipes for wastegate and exaust gases, a 3" high flow cat, and a 3inch piping while ill keep my cannon at the back, i was wanting it to keep the same/similar sound as it has now as its not to loud and sounds alrite atm, jst need the flow casue it kinda feels restriced at higher rev ranges. I think ill jst try find a FMIC and get soem1 to install it casue cbf tryin to cut the stuff on the inside of the front bar i dont wanna stuff it up.

That price sounds really good for a split dump, high flow cat and 3" stainless right through including install! A stainless split dump is $250-$300 and high flow cat $200-$300 on their own.

Nigel does some quality work there at streamline. He usually does all the pipework and fabricating from scratch from what i've seen, which is probably why youve been quoted that much.

I reccomend his work for sure!

He actually worked on my corolla exhaust last weekend after somehow mysteriously blowing the rear muffler :D

Another +1 for Nigel at Streamline.

He fixed up the loose exhaust manifold for my R34 back a few weeks ago, great guy to deal with - seems very genuine and was happy to show me around the car and what he'd be doing, etc.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
