Im really struggling to find older cars at the wreckers now.

Pick-a-part, Pick-pay-n-go etc used to be a treasure trove of 70's - 80's Datsuns, but they have had bugger all this year. I found a great place in Talbot, in rural Victoria, that has some interesting older stuff. Does anyone else know of wreckers that still have older cars? C210, 240k, z, zx etc... Even half the Z places in the yellow pages are bare of parts!

Its expected, as our cars are getting pritty old now

With my 1600's, its at the point where I dont sell anything 1600 related, and will buy stuff to hang onto as decent nick parts are getting harder and more expensive to locate (front chrome, front guards)

Over the years of going to wreckers, you see the different models and years cycle through.

Last year seem plenty of bluebirds,mr30's and a couple of r31's. This year the wreckers are full of R31's not many blueys etc.

And the occasional Datsun. which is usually a sunny, 200b or 120y ffs

Made the trip to Talbort a few times in the last year, the only problem is that most of the cars have been there that long, rust has taken over.

Theres also a few more wreckers around that way, I havent checked them out yet

But on your behalf, from memory there was a pritty clean, original brown c210 with gold trx mags there.

I got the gearknob out of it haha

Only place I know of that gets a steady flow for datsun is centre rd wreckers. Even then you have to be quick

(I take days off work to make sure I beat everyone else to parts haha)

Dan,

Edited by works 510

datspares in clayton and centre rd wreckers are the two i always go to.

If they dont have it then no one else local has it.

Thats what i have found anyways.

But my R30 is an 84 model. A bit younger then the older datsuns..

theres 3x MR30s at Kilsyth pick a part, along with a Z31 turbo i saw get stripped of its struts and other goodies in about 8 min flat by a ralley crew...

theres also a 280zx there, lots of 200b's and sunnys, blueys, no 1600 etc though

i had a list of stuff to get, but forgot the toolbox!

How long ago was that C210 in Talbot? I was there about 3 months ago and there was no sign of it. They did have a handy Gold C210 that was bent around the passanger door like a banana!

Anyone from interstate having better luck? Datpares just about laughed at me last time I went round there looking for parts. Too bad that I cant poach anything useful from the R31 series.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
