Hey all. Does anyone know with the new laws what is going on with p-platers and the demerits?

I was told (by a police officer) that if you lose your license on you p-plates you have to start all the way back at the start, as in do everything again, even your log book. Is this right? As Ive been also told that all you have to do is the theory test and hazard test again.

So whats the deal? Also something about a gradual demerit system?

Yep, if your one ur p plates, and u use all ur points.. you have to start again from the start... they pretty much cancel it.

If your not on ur P plates, it simply gets suspended... meaning once you reach the date, you can jump back in your car and start driving again without having to do anything.

It's always been the case that if you get a suspension while on your P's your license gets cancelled. I am from the pre-logbook era and I lost my license the first time, 3 weeks before I was sposed to come off my P's. Had to resit my L's and practical driving tests.

So say you got done doing say for example 100 in a 60 zone, but they didn't actually get the speed due to the fact there was no radar. So would it just go to court I guess and then what would happen? If found guilty? found not guilty? What would you think the decision would be and the punishment if any?

It wasnt me that go caught speeding, someone i know. When asked what evidence there was she said that it would be her visual observation and her notes that she took down. Then he got the summons in the mail saying he was doing 100kph in a 60 going onto 70 zone.

a month or so ago I got done doing in excess of 140 in a 100 zone. me and 6 others actually, all at the same time. and same case as yours. estimated according to the cops speedo and no radar gun.

I called a few of my cop friends to see if what they did was legal. Apparantly they are allowed to. the patrol car speedo does get calibrated every so often (how often..who knows). Both my cop friends said there it's very possible of winning the court battle in these cases, but never guaranteed.. unless of course there was only one police officer in the car and present there..then its 99%. It was my first infringement with nearly 2 years of driving so we all paid the fine ($700 and 5 demerits). 2 of my friends lost their license from it. One was a p plater so I could ask him the next time i see him about what's going on with his.

The reason I paid mine as I said it was my first fine ever and court+lawyer fees would equate to around $700. If you want to take it to court you have to write a letter requesting the matter be disputed in court. (this is for the fine). If not you will have 28 days to pay the fine and thats also the timeframe to send that letter in. I'd dispute it in court if I was losing my license over it.

Sean do you mean if you lose more than 4 points.. or have 4 points remaining? LOSING 4 in total is very harsh.. and isn't good for me.. :)

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
