Hi Folks

I am a moderator on aus300zx.com, I thought the members here would be interested in the developments on this thread on our forum

If it can assist anyone who legitimately wants to fight an alleged speeding offence, all well and good :D

Cheers

Greg

gives us cliff notes. was he actually going that fast? if so, then why? if not why did the cops get a wrong reading?

No, he was not going that fast. There were 4 of us in the convoy.

You can't attack the reading or the officer, as all they have to do is produce certificates for the operator training and certification of accuracy for the device.

Despite the fact that you can still get a wrong reading, you just can't get anywhere in the court by using that reasoning.

This guy was targeted at 527 metres. Now, that's over 1/2 a kilometre (approximately 11 power poles in built up areas). They flew a LIDAR expert up from Victoria, and he himself admitted that the LIDAR beam diameter is wider and higher than the car at that distance.

The police office either lied or gave erroneous depictions of the days events like (no other traffic around), duh!! 4 Zs in convoy!! Plus the last day of a public holiday, the roads were packed. After giving evidence that no other cars were around, they played the tape of the day, and the magistrate says, "correct me if I'm wrong but that does sound like other cars are around".

Anyway, read through the thread on our site it'll all be there for your enjoyment.

In furtherance to your question regarding was he speeding, I can assure you that I would not have gone to all the trouble and expense (3 days off work) for a speedster.

Also, I doubt I'd get any support from our member-base if I was to publicly support illegal activities on our roads + I am in a position of responsibility within our organisation, so I have that aspect to consider also.

change your pic in your sig imo.. it shows your number plate lol

haha too late.

Once you swear on the bible, the next thing is to repeat your full name and address, so they got me anyway.

I'll be looking over my shoulder for a while.

Lucky my 300 doesn't stand out too much from others :D

No seriously, too many skylines on the road, we couldn't get over 60kmph :)

All jokes aside, I only posted here to help you guys, but I do appreciate your light-hearted banter :)

One day you'll all come up with something new and true about our cars.

When I bought the R33 to put alongside the Z, our members had nothing but praise.

Thanks for posting this info Greg, I believe that it is quite a significant case that Sean has won here and

that the ensuing result could possibly have far reaching ramifications for similar future or pending cases.

Moral of the story:

- speed measurement equipment is not always accurate

- cops will lie to cover their arse

I would suggest it will have not other consequences apart from this matter being dismissed.

The devices are accurate when used in accordance with the guidelines. This sounds like it was not done right in some respects.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
