hi guys,

ive taken my r32 gtr to the track a few times & have now developed a whine noise in the rear diff - i did a search & it seems that those big launches may have caused this.

this is when i hear the diff whine noise:

- between 60km/h & 100km/h, anything above this speed & the noise is no longer heard

- when the diff is under any type of load i.e. accelerating & decelerating

funny thing is if im cruising at this speed where i hear the diff noise & i very lightly accelerate where the diff is not under load or deceleration (kinda like a balancing point for lack of a better explanation), the diff is completely quiet...

any ideas? i think its diff related & not a wheel bearing

Sounds like the bearings in the diff have let go. For the price of new bearings you might aswell get an aftermarket lsd that comes with new bearings and seals etc.

what diff centre would you recommend?

would redline diff oil help with the noise as i know it helps with syncro's in the gearbox

You have snapped all the tags off the drive plates in the clutch packs...no biggie. Get it rebuilt by Terry at Award Diff and Gearbox at Rydalmere for around $500. He will modify it as well as fit the stronger Nismo clutch pack set...you wont break it then.

I use a Kazz 2-way, got it for $900, but i use it for drifting. Came with new bearings seals etc.

Redline oil helped the syncro's in my gearbox as well. But if it is the bearings in the diff, because the amount of pre-load they have, once there gone there gone.

I would suggest to get an aftermarket lsd, but i would also suggest listening to DiRTgarage as i would say he knows his stuff when it comes to dragging gtr's.

R32 GTR diff's are a 2 way mech item from factory...with the "Terry mods" and the clutch pack would be as good as any aftermarket item. Its all i use...they work!
