Like I said look around..

My mate just sold his 92 GTR.. get this for 10k to another friend!!

What was wrong with it... no front drive-shafts and rwc..

He was sick and tired of time wasters and needed to finance his new car to go down to coast in... So he cut his losses and sold it quickly..

It's funny the c$%^ didn't mention it to me or any other of his mates until it was sold :) in which case I would have had another run about :)

GTR's can be great daily drivers, I've used a few for a work vehicle that clocked up more km's per yr than most on here would ever do.

The secret is in keeping the power down to something reasonable and doing modifications around the purpose of 'daily driving' not pretending you are going to the track every second day. Remember the factory GTR is a fast car out of the box.

For example on a daily these items are a little off the mark and degrade the 'daily driver' experience to a greater or lesser extent ;

* Most Coil over suspension if not all

* Lowering the car too much

* Loud and boomy exhausts

* Turbo upgrades that get you well over 300rwkw

* solid 3 puck clutches

* Unshielded pod filters

* 1.5 & 2 way LSD's

* Aftermarket Rims (usually cheap ones) that weigh more than factory

* Super low profile tyres

Not suprisingly without falling foul of the above items you can build a car that will rattle of low 11 second quarter miles and be fun at the odd track day with another list of modifications and still drive really nicely.

just cars, ive had a clean record for the last 3 years and been driving for 5 years now including L's.

i used there excess boost thing, but even with a small excess it is only around 1400 a year full comp

You have a 32 gtr insured for $800/yr with a $1,400 excess?

What is the car 'value' on that policy?

And are you still convered considering it is illegal for you to drive that car at your age?

Edited by r32line

sorry i should have explained myself better.

my insurance WOULD be $1400 a year with a excess of around $1500 (higher due to my age). but i chose to increase my excess with just cars so that my insurance is $880 a year with a excess of around $2200. value of the car is 17k with exhaust and some other little things listed

dont know what state your from but i can drive/insure/crash/anything any car i want here in SA :cool:

Vic, u cant drive gtr till ur on full licence (earliest possible is 21, but under new rules will be 22).

Your insurance is cheap! You must be in the lowest risk area in Aus or sumthin!

  • 4 weeks later...

i just bought a 1989 r32 gtr last week for 12 500. its fairly stock n clean as a whistle except abit of paint missin off the inlet manifold. the thing is a great daily n i get about 450km out of a tank and thats with a fair bit of time spent on boost. i just hope its fairly reliable.

Did the previous owner's stocks/shares go thru the floor?

Any rust? Fully checked for that?

Not stolen? REVs?

Not a 'demo derby' survivor?

Sounds really good otherwise... Congrats.

    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
