Yep, heard about this too.

I work for a hosting company as a product manager, and i thought of this idea..

Why dont we use a .htaccess file to detect if their IP Address is coming from know Bad IP's (i.e Police Headquarters) and set a rewrite rule to a page saying, "you are breaching T & C's of this forum, access denied." ??

I know its possible, ive done something similar myself, and would seem to prevent alot of heartache, and stop wasting tax payers money for some clown to sit infront of a computer all day surfing forums and eating donuts!

It would require identifying suspect accounts, and logging their access IP's, then we could also research where each states relevant police datacentres are located and block these IP's too.

Only way they could get around this is by using a proxy server i guess.

I guess its alot of effort, and still no way to 100% guarentee that they wont get access, but just an idea :P

id back you 100% ^^^^

Thats why its smart to edit number plates :P

Wow Great! Thanks for the support guys. :P

I can write the code for the .htaccess file and email it to one of the administrators to add to the current file.

I have no idea who i would email it to though when its done..? Any ideas guys? Also we would need people to contribute any known bad IP's.

Wow, i'd be surprised if the police were that pathetic. We keep hearing about the lack of police resources, surely they wouldn't be wasting their time looking at a forum for who has a pod filter. I'd be shocked and amazed...

Car modifiers/clubs/enthusiast are the scum of the earth. Their cars should be defected and owners treated like a scumbag criminal just for taking an interest in enhancing their car. They're as low as pedophiles and should have tax payer's money spent to have someone keep a watchful eye on everyone last one of them!

Your all a bunch of murderers and rapist.

Ahhh yep they do come on here for sure.

The cop at mallala actually actively goes on the R31 club forum (r31skylineclub.com) and answers questions and stuff as well as other forums too.

He does it in his own time but there is no reason that others wouldn't do the same.

I know a few of the gawler coppers as my g/f helps with blue light disco there... I reckon I know the pommie guy... usually a good bloke.

As above, I have about 3-4 mates on these forums that are police officers with imports...heck I even used to sponsor one. :(

I would say there are alot more that surf these forums especially nissansilvia.com being as it was the most viewed auto website for the last couple years etc.

Blocking access via .htaccess seems like a good idea, but I'd be against it. You cannot say for sure that all cops that visit these sites are bad and are out to get you. Discriminate much? I've heard of all the bad stories about defects and such but as pointed out above, theres some good people in there too!

I'd propose a flag to mark them as Cops instead of blocking access, why would they have a legitimite reason to say they aren't officers? Give the something like the [has donated] tag and that way it's good PR for them, they should be representing the force in a good way and if they aren't we shoot them down! Well maybe not literally :(

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
