Hi im looking for alternative boost gauge setups that dont require the space of a normal gauge pod and threading vac tubes into the cabin.

to give you an idea:

http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store/scrip...p?idproduct=131

this would be ideal but except for the price + its in america and have no idea if they would even ship here.

has anyone come across setups where theres a small digital pressure reader under the bonnet right near the intake manifold, then all you need to do is run a wire into the cabin, and then mount a small LCD readout on your dash? i would have expected that these kinds were more common as digital pressure readers are nothing high tech, but i cant find anything.

maybe im just searching in the wrong places, as i can only find gauge pods when searching for automotive terms. are there other applications that could be adapted to suit? there must be plenty of machines that need to read pressure above and below atmospheric pressure

hmmm I dunno dude.. some applications are just far better suited to analogue guages.

you can get electronic boost guages now- ie you just need to run 3 or 4 wires from the sender in the engine bay to the guage. If your car boosts up quickly I think reading the digital readout would require more time with eyes off the road

thats just my opinion hey

I've got a scangauge in my wrx and whilst its good, when you flatten it quickly in a lower gear and it spools up to full boost quickly the digital readout can't keep up with it...My analouge gauge in the skyline is alot better for reading!

I'm looking at the dynotune square gauge myself... as all I really need is something to accompany my factory boost gauge, and reads in psi rather than bar. The dynotune is nice and compact, without having cups on your dash.

Did you end up finding anything that suits you?

yeh i found a cheapy ebay one, but i havent had bad experiences with ebay gauges.

its a stepper motor gauge with a sender in the engine bay. the whole unit in the gauge holder is 57mm deep, vs about 90mm for a regular, then you also have a rather inflexible, unsightly vac/boost tube sticking out the back.

it should be a clean install, im putting it in now. ill post pics when im done

Ahh.. neat, does it come with a stand?

Btw, to run the vacuum piping through ... go through the kick panel on the drivers side, then up through the guard and it should pop out the other side into the engine bay.

heres the end result, looks quite neat too. nor does it block any of the other gauges or warning symbols

no tacky pillar gauges for me thanks

the baseplate the gauge cup mounts to is really just a crude bit of metal which slots onto the pod. im not sure how it was intended to be used but i can make do with much less :D

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
