Heya all,

Been lurking around here for awhile.. but have come across something funny with my car. Thought i'd chuck it here and see if anyone has any ideas/suggestions etc

Anyways, the car's a 03 350gt 6mt with 47thou on the clock. I got the car serviced yesterday and decided to dyno it for the heck of it but it returned a rather low figure of 131 kw at the rears. Odd i thought as most are saying stock should put out around 160 at the rears.

I bought the car 2 months ago with 43 thou on the clock and since then it's had brake, engine, clutch, gearbox and diff fluid changed. The oil filter has been replaced. The car when bought, had a kakimoto regu 06 & R y pipe back exhaust installed shortly followed by a trust panel filter then a z-tube.

The car doesn't feel sluggish and in fact, feels quite fast. G-tech gives it a 5.89 time to a 60mp/h dash but 131rwkw seems a bit low for this kind of time. My previous ride was a mazda 3 mps with 180kw atw and that car only managed to post a flat 6 to the 60mp/h dash.

My next step is changing the spark plugs but i doubt that will help.. i think they come with platinum from factory that are good for upto 100 thou km's ?

Any ideas/suggestions etc is welcome!

Thanks for reading.

P.s. If anyone is around the st.george (sydney) area with a 350gt m/t and doesn't mind showing me what kind of power i should be feeling in my car (e.g. torque going up a hill/in gear acceleration), please feel free to PM me. If you'd like, you can drive my car and see if it's lacking a certain something as well.

despite the low reading but if you can still get 5.86s 0-100 then I'd say the dyno may be configured to read low. Perhaps wrong setting from previous dyno run? that can throw the figure out of whack as well. many other factor can make dyno reading varies from one dyno to another

Hey mate, u dont happen to live in South Hurstville do u? west st? if so, i live just around the corner of u, u can take mine for a spin see if there's any diff to your. :)

Hey all,

Thanks for the replies :)

Yeah i was thinking there maybe was a wrong setting on the dyno.. going through the dyno sheet doesn't tell me much though, other than the usual tire pres setting, correct intake and ambient temp plus the shootout mode was correct at 6 cyl n/a. I hope it was a wrong setting. I know this dyno reads fairly well usually as i've had my previous two cars on there in various states of tune/mods and the numbers it manages to post up seems quite realistic/normal. In saying that, my previous cars were dyno'd by the main mech/owner but few days ago, it was the senior apprentice that ran the 350gt.

BLISTC,

Wow, congrats on your awesome result! Thanks for the offer, really appreciate it but i'll take up GEXer's offer as he's quite close to me.

GEXer,

PM incoming, thanks mate :D

nothing - completely stock

ill try get the dyno graph posted

was done at a dyno day this yr @ unigroup engineering in girraween

Oh, ok...

I would of thought that was a bit high, but I may be wrong.

Not by much though!

Just an update if anyone is curious..

GEXer took my car for a spin and noted that 1st gear felt better than his but my 2nd gear was weaker. GEXer's v35 however, has a different diff in it i believe so it was kinda inconclusive.

Been driving it around lately giving it a bit, certainly feels more than 131kw atw, so i don't really care.. long as the car is running healthy which it seems to be. AFR check was ok.

One thing my mate spotted (he was there during the dyno run) was that it was a raining day and my car went on with wet tires, plus the person driving my car on the dyno thought it was wheelspinning (the speed did climb a bit quick.. i've thrown my cars on the dyno plenty times) so most likely that explains the low power readout.

Case closed, am happy. Under 6 sec to 60mp/h timing is repeatable too without being super brutal so i think the car is going ok.

P.s. Thanks GEXer! Really appreciate it. Btw, saw your V35 today, very nice looking!

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
