R33 Six Speed Conversion

Anyone ever heard of one being undertaken or successfully completed?

I've searched the forums, but haven't been able to find an answer.

What gearboxes would possibly fit in an R33 to convert it to a six speed?

Yeah a sixth gear would be nice. Don't like the car reving at about 3000RPM at 100kms. Any info would be appreciated.

Would another Nissan box fit? R34 GTR six speed or didn't a S15 come out with a six speed?

There was recently an R32 GT-R for sale that had a HKS Six Speed box, it was valued at around $1,500,000 Yen though which is like $20,000 AUD.

6 speed as in an R34 gearbox, or an aftermarket Holinger, OS Giken, Trust, HKS or ORC?

There are quite a few running the aftermarket boxes now, R34 ones are pretty massive + you need to run the R34 transfer case, and get a custom driveshaft made up to run it in a '32. Also I think the spline count is different in the R34 Getrag box - need to buy another clutch as well...

EDIT: Oh and as far as prices go.... around $15,000 for a 2nd hand Holinger, up to ~$23,000 for a new one with sequential shifter. Trust boxes are the cheapest of the lot, with 2nd hand ones costing as low as $8,000. New price for the OS Giken + HKS are the same, and the OS comes with a sequential shifter... around $17,000.

What about the S15 gearbox??? would that fit in aight??

Chef_32 - very nice idea. It might need some strengthening but would be a very cheap alternative to the others. Driveshafts might need to be modded too.

Been thinking about it for the last 2 days. the shift is pretty short too, very nice box. Someone must have done it???

it also depends how the gear box gears are setup...etc...i'm sure u can get different parts for the gearbox to increase top speed etc..with the final gear...

S15 gearbox is extremely fragile. They break too easy with a SR20, let alone the torque from an RB25. A common mod is to swap the 6 speed for a 5 speed for reliability...

lets just save our money now and get a R34 GTR .. haih .. long wayy to go for me ..
