Just wondering if anyone here who is under 25 are with shannons? If so whats your premium like? And did you have a hard time to get insurance through them? For all my cars iv been with just cars and I just got a R34 (picking up this weekend woot) so thought id give these guys a go. Now with just cars im 22 never had a claim and the 34 is mildly modified and with rating 2 my premium is $1300 at agreed value of $20k with everything listed

Called shannons and they are willing to ensure me but for $3600 and the same details was provided to them as I gave to just cars. Was told by shannons you have to be an enthusiast so am I part of a club? ra ra ra will you be doing track days? had to say yes (cause firstly I will be getting into track days and secondly I was told by them being part of a club I would be doing track days so either way they would be listing it down.)

So ye are there any under 25's with shannons? And since I will be hitting the tracks would it be worth the extra to be covered for most track events since at most ill be doing 2-3 track days at most in a year?

just cars will insure any1 whos is willing to pay .. from p platers wif ferraris to 50yr old repeat serial drink drivers.. just remember that all the expense doesnt come from the initial payment of your insurance.. it comes from when you have an accident... thats when they start to charge u $$$$ .. plus u dont get choice of repairer if your at fault.. your "told" to go to a aami recommended repairer and have your car repaired through one of these repairers meaning you will spend the next few months going back to them to fix the f*#k ups they can seem to repair.

shannons are catered to a more specialised form of insurance, they cater for more older petrol heads n collectors cos they generally outgrow the hoon age ... and i use the word generally very loosely. shannons target the clubs, both social and events and gets good business from that cos they listen. there not cheap but that comes with benifits.. ie choice of repairer regardless of whos at fault. pay your excess and take your car to whom ever you want.

yea mate im in the same boat as you. Im going to try insure my R32 GT-R with shanons so i returned it to stock wheels and i put the stock side skirts on so i look more like and enthusiast and im going to become a SAU member before i go to them but im not sure whats going to happen because i am 21 and they might not consider me to be serious about it but i heard they are real ass holes there.?

Well they wernt real assholes well they were and weren’t at the same time lol. they just asked a crap load of questions for example the 34 I got has had the turbo changed to high low, Z32 afm, high flow fuel rails, fuel pump, FPR, cooler, turbo back exhaust, coilovers and no cosmetics mods just looking stock

Then they went and asked me why these mods was done, how would these be used, what makes you a car enthusiast and a lot of other questions. Just be prepared to be on the phone for at least an hour. And being under 21 with a GTR I feel sorry for you already.

At this stage im looking at going back to just cars but a part of me does say pay the extra and go with shannons. It is costly but your ass is covered in all ways.

hi guys just a quike tip, call GIO and ask to be put thru to "Custom Car" (they are to GIO what just car is to aami) and will match just cars primium and they have lower excess fees and offer choice of repair and for like an extra $5-$10 a month you can get a rent-a-car for 14 days in the event of a crash (which was pretty useful)

hope this helps guys

you are covered for track events with shannons, YOU must notify them first before going for track events.. in saying that it must be a club orientated track event.. ie the car club u belong to.

reason shannons ask you those questions is to see if your worth the risk to insure plus if you match there minimum requirements under their business scheme.

end of the day... doesnt matter who you insure with.. aami, just cars, shannons, gio, custom cars ...there all owned under the same company.. what your paying for is the service provided.

basically just weigh out the pros and cons and see which is suited to you.

Then they went and asked me why these mods was done, how would these be used, what makes you a car enthusiast and a lot of other questions. Just be prepared to be on the phone for at least an hour. And being under 21 with a GTR I feel sorry for you already.

na na im not under 21 i am 21 and a half so im pretty much almost your age not much of a difference lol

i got no mods to the car anyway so it wont matter just making it look clean

well im 22 and like 8 months i have R33 GTST, exhusts, wheels, cooler, and shannons would only insure me if the car was kept of street and not visable for the road at home (which it is) but it also had to be in a locked and sercure car pack at work too, but yeah they wanted high $'s

not sure how they will be with a GTR, worth a call tho

Has to be a "driver training" track day.

I.e one of kev's driver dynamics track days @ sandown

speak to RUFFLS, he sweet talked some dude at Shannon's into covering his s15. And i've seen his car on google street view so i don't think it's always out of sight :P

he is not yet 21 and managed to get covered by Shannon's.. the bastard.

A mate of mine just bought an Evo IIV, and got insurance through Shannon's, he's 23. I think if you speak to the right people and somehow show that you're an enthusiast, but a sensible one you can sometimes get around the over 25 rule...He also owns a Volvo S80 (Not with shannons), so that may have helped his sensible driver "image" (Mind you, it's twin turbo and gets absolutely thrashed)......I tried insurance through them ( Also 23) and basically got told to forget it, so i think it comes down to who you get on the phone/modifications/location etc just like the other companies...

Totally wrong. I'd call them before you head out next time.

Anything under CAMS, AASA, or any other motor sport governing body, anything you sign for indemnity, anything with timing, etc etc etc - not covered.

Events like DECA, the nsw texi, thats not covered.

Driver dynamics - some courses are if not most! :P

I am insured through Shannons, I'm 24 with a very clean record. I've been insured with them since 22.

Agreed value on both cars, premium is a little more expensive than Just Cars but I have the total loss salvage option on my Pulsar so in the event it's written off I keep the car for free (minus excess if I'm at fault.) They cover absolutely everything on both of my cars.

It was a little difficult to get insurance with them at first (no garage), but perseverance paid off. They actually scouted me when I had my Pulsar at Autosalon in 2006, then rung me, and the guy who initially signed me up was extremely familiar with my car. I didn't really have to prove I was a car enthusiast, they knew my car.

Neither of my cars are considered high theft risks, interestingly enough.

Premium on the Pulsar is $1100 (limited use cover - max. 2 days per week)

Premium on the Skyline is $1200 (daily use cover)

I'm also in the highest category of risk suburb, so it's quite reasonable.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
